U.S. Women's Open: Why Nelly Korda has done "absolutely no research" of Riviera

Nelly Korda says she has barely done any research of Riviera Country Club ahead of the second women's major of 2026.

Nelly Korda says she has barely done any research into Riviera ahead of the U.S. Women's Open.

The second women's major of the year is being played this week at the iconic Los Angeles venue for the very first time.

Korda, 27, is the pre-tournament favourite and is looking to win her second major in a row having already triumphed at the Chevron Championship last month.

The American dominated from start to finish and won by five strokes at Memorial Park Golf Course in Detroit.

A win this week would take her to four major titles and move her one step closer to completing the career grand slam.

But she has left the majority of her prep this week to her entourage.

"If I'm being honest, I haven't done research at all," Korda said.

"I don't necessarily watch too much golf. I had my coach, one of my coaches, Jamie Mulligan, come out here, and he's from this area and he's been at this golf course millions of time.

"So yesterday he came out and walked with me, as he will today as well."

Korda added: "Obviously he has a lot of knowledge, and I was just asking him some questions, but sometimes too much information isn't really good.

"So I just try to play the golf course and kind of figure it out on my own. I know Jason, my caddie, has done a lot of research as well on the golf course.

"So we'll pick a game plan depending on the day. Every day is going to be different.

"I know the wind switches here kind of from morning to afternoon based off it coming from the water. Every day is going to be a different game plan."

Korda kicked off her 2026 season by capturing her 15th LPGA Tour title at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in her home state of Florida.

Surprisingly, it was a first victory since the 2024 ANNIKA.

"Last year was just a weird year of kind of not necessarily playing my best, but also when I did, not getting the bounces or just missing by a centimeter here and there," Korda said, reflecting on her winless 2025 season.

"But I also learned a lot about myself. It made me hungrier to be in those positions.

"There's no better place to be in than in the hunt on a back nine on Sunday at a major championship, especially at the Women's Open."
