Confused PGA Tour pro wants R&A to let him know if he's in The Open: "My friend has given me more info"
PGA Tour member Michael Kim has implored the R&A to let him know if he is going to play The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in a few weeks' time.
PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim has implored the R&A to give him an idea if he's going to play this year's Open Championship.
The very best players in the world will head to Royal Portrush in a few weeks' time for the final men's major of the year.
American Kim thinks that he's done enough to fill one of the six remaining spots in the field via the world rankings.
But he does not know for sure just yet whether he will get his opportunity to compete for the claret jug in Northern Ireland.
"You'd think with less than two weeks before the Open Champ starts, the R&A could give me a decent idea of whether I'm playing it or not… but nope," he wrote on X.
"All I've gotten is 'you have a slight chance'. My friend who looked at all the qualifications has given me more info than the R&A has.
"There's still six spots left and if they fill it with OWGR, then I'm most likely in but even that they won't say anything about."
Kim, who is ranked 55th in the OWGR, was told by his X followers that he should just remove all doubt by simply winning the John Deere Classic.
The 31-year-old said even if he is victorious this week then he's still unsure if that means he punches his ticket. "Working on it," he added.
The 153rd Open Championship begins on 17 July.
Big names have mixed results at Final Qualifying
Final Qualifying was held this week and it represented one last chance for a handful of golfers to earn their spots in The Open field.
Former World No.1 Lee Westwood was the highest-profile name who made it through his qualifier at Dundonald Links.
The Englishman, now 52, has not played in a major championship since he defected to LIV Golf in June 2022.
Rounds of 67 and 70 saw Westwood win his qualifier and he was one of eight English players that grabbed one of the 20 spots on offer.
Westwood's LIV teammate Ian Poulter also attempted to qualify but the European Ryder Cup legend missed out.
Poulter played in the same qualifier with his son Luke and former US Open champion Graeme McDowell, who also came up short.
Notable players that missed out also included Anirban Lahiri, Chris Wood, Harold Varner III, Alex Fitzpatrick, Davod Puig and Erik van Rooyen.
Sam Horsfield quit after nine holes and was disqualified for not telling R&A officials.
He later hit out at the coverage his DQ received, explaining that he felt dizzy on the course and was struggling from a lack of sleep.
American PGA Tour pro Billy Horschel is the only player ranked in the top 50 that won't be participating in The Open.
Horschel recently had surgery on his hip and hopes to be back in action later in the summer.
Tiger Woods is also not playing at Royal Portrush.
The 47-year-old ruptured his Achilles in March and has not revealed when he is targeting a return to the golf course.
