Golf commentators Andrew Cotter and Ken Brown were in stitches after a fan appeared to break wind while Scottie Scheffler played his approach shot into the par-4 17th during the first round of the 153rd Open.

As Scheffler sent his wedge shot down the flag, an unfortunate sound was picked up over the microphone and then to cries of laughter from Cotter and Brown in the commentary box.

They then replayed what happened in the coverage, just to add to the spectacle.

"There's so much to say about that shot," said Cotter.

"The sound off the club face, extraordinary... let's stick to the golf."

Brown replied: "Just a little bit of wind from behind, just helped it ease down the green."

"Bit of echo as well," continued Cotter.

It has not yet been made clear who the culprit was, but golf fans have been reacting to the comical moment on X / Twitter.

We'll let you take a look through all the comments in the thread below.

Scheffler's second shot very nearly went in the hole for an eagle just to add to all the drama.

The World No.1 tapped in for birdie and he would par the 18th for a steady round of 3-under 68.

It leaves Scheffler just one shot off the pace heading into the second round of The Open
