If you needed any more proof that golf is booming right now, CBS Sports has just delivered it in style ahead of the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs today.

The 2025 PGA Tour season on CBS has officially become the most-watched in seven years—proof the game’s reach, drama and star power are still connecting with fans

...and that those saying Scottie Scheffler is "boring" and the sport is lost without Tiger Woods are simply talking trash!

According to CBS Sports, the network averaged 2.969 million viewers per broadcast this regular PGA Tour season, marking a 17% increase over 2024 and the best numbers since 2018.

That’s no small jump in today’s media landscape, especially with competition across platforms and sports at an all-time high.

The growth wasn't limited to just a few marquee events either.

A whopping 14 of 19 final rounds on CBS saw year-over-year viewership increases, showing strong, consistent interest throughout the season.

The biggest standout?

That was reserved for last week's Wyndham Championship final round, which averaged 1.951 million viewers, making it the most-watched in five years and up a staggering 36% from last year alone.

Pleasing numbers given many of the marquee players such as Scheffler and Rory McIlroy weren't even in town.

The numbers can be further upgraded given Cameron Young had his first PGA Tour title in his 94th start already wrapped up by the time he entered the back nine at Sedgefield Country Club.

Young went on to win the tournament by six shots on 22-under par.

The final round of the Wyndham Championship marked the final round of the regular season where the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings advanced to this week's first Playoffs event at the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis.

After that, the top 50 in the standings will progress to next week's BMW Championship in Maryland, with then the top 30 in the race competing in the FedEx Cup finale at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

So what’s driving the surge?

Compelling storylines, competitive fields and strong coverage all play a part.

But ultimately, these numbers reflect a resurgent appetite for golf content—and CBS, who said goodbye to a golf legend last week, is serving it up perfectly.

Whether you're a weekend hacker or a hardcore follower of the FedExCup race, there's never been a better time to be a fan.
