John Daly makes a 19 (!) on one hole during shocking PGA Tour Champions round
Golf legend John Daly makes a 19 on the par-5 12th during the first round of the Sanford International on the PGA Tour Champions, marking his worst-ever score on one hole as a professional.

John Daly has done some outrageous things in his PGA Tour career down the years, but few have surpassed taking a 19 (NINETEEN!) on one hole - a feat he achieved during the first round of the Sanford International on Friday.
While there is yet no video footage of Daly's trainwreck 19 on the 501-yard par-5 12th at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, we do have a play by play account from the PGA Tour Champions website.
Daly, 59, was already 4-over par for his round and well out of contention for the 54-hole event by the time he boarded the tee box at the 12th.
But The Wild Thing well and truly sent himself to the bottom of the board some 20 minutes later.
Although we don't have footage of Daly's 19, we have found a video (see below) of what the 12th hole looks like for you.
As you can see there's plenty of water.
So how did Daly achieve a 19 exactly?
Right, bear with us, here goes...
The two-time major champion found the primary rough off the 12th tee.
He then played his second shot from there and found the water.
Not once, but a total of seven times.
Daly then hit his 16th shot into the rough.
He then took three more shots to get down from there for a disastrous 19.
The 19 that John Daly made on the 12th at Minnehaha Country Club today on the PGA Tour Champions marks the worst one-hole score of his professional career. Daly's previous worst effort was an 18 on the par-5 6th at Bay Hill in 1998. pic.twitter.com/oUOeIz7i7x

The score marks Daly's worst one-hole score of his professional career.
Daly's previous worst was an 18 on the famous par-5 6th at Bay Hill in 1998.
Here's how he achieved that score.
The score of 19 also marks a record high score from any player on one hole in PGA Tour Champions history.
It's not the worst ever score in PGA Tour history though.
Tommy Armour carded a 23 on the 17th hole at Shawnee Inn & Resort in 1927.

Daly went on to birdie the 15th but he would bogey the 18th to come home in 51 shots for an opening round of 18-over 88.
That doesn't mark his worst ever round as a Tour professional though.
Daly shot a round of 90 at the Valspar Championship in March 2014.
The American won his two major titles at the 1991 PGA and 1995 Open.
He won five times on the PGA Tour between 1991 and 2004.
At the top of the board at the Sanford International, in-form Argentine Angel Cabrera hit the front with a 6-under 64.
