Phenomenal Scottie Scheffler landed his 16th PGA Tour title with a dominant victory at the 2025 Memorial Tournament.
Scheffler stormed to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday evening with a flurry of birdies to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the signature event.
He went round Muirfield Village in 2-under 70 on Sunday to seal a four-shot victory over the in-form Ben Griffin.
Scheffler led by two strokes at the turn and his advantage increased to four when Griffin made back-to-back bogeys at the 12th and 13th.
Griffin rallied, though, and rolled in a sublime eagle at the 15th after hitting a towering three-wood to within 13 feet from 256 yards.
The 31-year-old, who won his first individual PGA Tour title last week, then followed that with a birdie to reduce the deficit once again.
But a dreadful tee shot at the 17th darted left and it led to a disastrous double bogey to allow Scheffler an easy stroll up the last.
"Definitely disappointed," a dejected Griffin said.
"My putter definitely wasn't quite a hundred percent there most of the day. I made it exciting there at the end for a couple holes.
"But yeah, ultimately, I mean, it's funny, I'd take this finish, like, a year ago, two years ago, three years ago.
"I'm definitely a little disappointed to not have made it a little bit closer or gotten it done."
Scheffler shook Jack Nicklaus' hand in the immediate aftermath of victory and was reduced to tears once again as he paid tribute to his wife Meredith.
European Ryder Cup member Sepp Straka (70), Canada's Nick Taylor (73) and Russell Henley (71) also finished in the top five.
U.S. Ryder Cup hopefuls Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth - and team captain Keegan Bradley - also finished in the top 10 on 1-under.
Fowler also booked his spot into the forthcoming Open Championship at Royal Portrush with his finish in Ohio.
Scheffler has now won 16 PGA Tour titles, including three major championships and an Olympic gold medal, since his breakout victory in February 2022.
The undisputed World No.1 has now become the first player to successfully defend the Memorial since Tiger Woods in 2001.
The Memorial Tournament was Scheffler's third victory in his fourth start, following on from the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the PGA Championship.
Scheffler will head to Oakmont in two weeks' time as the red-hot favourite to clinch the U.S. Open.
"It's a waste of time thinking about that"
Scheffler now has three successful title defences on the PGA Tour.
The American went back-to-back at TPC Scottsdale, TPC Sawgrass and Muirfield Village.
The numbers show just how dominant he truly is. But that is the furthest thing from Scheffler's mind.
"I don't really think about that stuff, to be honest with you," he told reporters, sitting alongside Jack Nicklaus.
"I treat each tournament individually, and every tournament's different, and I try to do my best to come out here and compete. That's what I love to do.
"I love being able to play the PGA Tour, and I love being able to compete against the best players in the world and play on great golf courses like this one and be able to play in these legacy tournaments, like Mr. Palmer's tournament, Mr. Nicklaus's tournament."
He added: "It's really hard to put into words what it's like sitting up here with arguably the greatest player of all time and we're sitting here talking about stuff that I did today on his golf course. It's a pretty weird feeling. It is. I came here when I was in college.
"I always just dreamed of playing these tournaments. I never think about dominating. I don't -- it's a waste of time for me to think about that kind of stuff.
"I'm just trying to be the best that I can be and work hard and use the gifts that I have for good and that's pretty much it."
