Phil Mickelson holds hands up after shocking Scottie Scheffler take
LIV Golfer Phil Mickelson admits he got things badly wrong about Scottie Scheffler after watching him win by eight shots on the PGA Tour.
Phil Mickelson has taken to X / Twitter to hold his hands up after his shocking 'hot take' on Scottie Scheffler.
Mickelson, 54, commented in an exchange with CBS golf analyst Trevor Immelman on 16 March that Scheffler, 28, would not win before the Ryder Cup at the end of September 2025.
The majority of golf social media wasn't certain at the time that Mickelson truly meant it, especially since Scheffler won nine times around the world and seven official titles on the PGA Tour in 2024.
But apparently Mickelson did.
Six weeks on, and the World No.1 captured his first title of the 2025 season with a runaway eight-shot success on home turf at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
It marked the 14th win of Schefffler's PGA Tour career and his second in his home state of Texas.
Just moments after Scheffler surged to the winning line, closing things out in style with a 63, and Immelman messaged Mickelson on X / Twitter to see what he had to say for himself.
Mickelson, to his credit, held his hands up and laughed about it.
"So I might have been off on that one [crying laughter emojis]," tweeted Mickelson, who won 45 times on the PGA Tour.
"Congrats to Scottie on a great performance [thumbs up emojis]."

Scheffler has decided not to compete in this week's $20m Truist Championship.
That's so he can take the week off to best prepare for golf's second major of the season at the PGA Championship from 15-18 May.
Scheffler is seeking a third career major to add to his haul of two Masters wins.
Mickelson is competing in the US PGA.
Lefty became the oldest player to win a major at the age of 50 years in 11 months when he etched his name on the Wanamaker Trophy for the second time in his career in 2021.
Mickelson also won the PGA in 2005.
He missed the cut at The Masters in April.
Mickelson had a week to forget at LIV Golf Korea last week as finished 50th following rounds of 75, 70 and 78.
