Scottie Scheffler cruised to his first PGA Tour title of 2025 on his ninth start at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The two-time Masters champ began the final round on Sunday at TPC Craig Ranch with an eight-shot lead over America's Ricky Castillo.
His biggest challenge came from Erik van Rooyen but despite a faultless 8-under 63 from the South African, Scheffler's matching 63 sealed an eight-shot win.
Scheffler also matched the low 72-hole score in PGA Tour history with 253 strokes.
The tournament in his home state of Texas means a great deal to the golfer given he made his first start as a pro here 11 years ago.
Scheffler was also forced to skip this stop on the PGA Tour schedule 12 months ago for the birth of his son Bennett.
"It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice for little moments like these," Scheffler said in the immediate aftermath of victory. "And they're pretty special."
Paying tribute to the late Byron Nelson, he added: "He's a great man. He was great for the game of golf. He was a great person, a family man, and I'm proud to be the champion at his event."
The 28-year-old set the lowest 36-hole total of his PGA Tour career when he followed his opening 61 with a 63 on Friday.
He decided to complete his third round in near darkness on Saturday evening after play was suspended for several hours due to the threat of lightning.
Scheffler made a slow start to the final round but played holes four to eight in 6-under to turn in 30.
Birdies at 11, 14 and 15 saw him stretch his lead. He dropped his second shot of the day on the par-3 17th when he tried to get too cute with a greenside chip.
Victory will undoubtedly raise expectations for the World No.1 with the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club on the horizon.
Rory McIlroy is the favourite to clinch the second men's major of the year after he finally completed the career grand slam at Augusta National last month.
Scheffler missed the beginning of this season after undergoing surgery on a hand injury sustained whilst he was preparing pasta for his family over Christmas.
He returned at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and admitted recovery from the surgery was proving more difficult than anticipated.
Scheffler was not at his best at the first men's major of the year but still finished fourth at The Masters.
Last year he became the first player to win seven PGA Tour titles in a single season since Tiger Woods in 2007.
