Scottie Scheffler to golf reporter: "What's the point in me thinking about that?"

Scottie Scheffler used his first press conference as the PGA Championship winner to send a direct message to the LIV Golf players.

Scottie Scheffler says he doesn't bother thinking about whether his results would have been different over the last three years had LIV Golf not existed.

The 28-year-old stormed to his 15th title since his breakout 2022 season with a dominant victory at the PGA Championship

Scheffler faced stiff competition from Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau but in the end LIV Golf recruits couldn't catch him at Quail Hollow.

A reporter asked Scheffler if he wondered how his career would've looked by this point had the PIF-backed breakaway not launched in 2022.

"Who knows," came the reply from Scheffler before the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.

"I only get to compete against those guys four times a year. That was their choice; not mine.

"At the end of the day I'm here competing and doing the best I can, and that kind of stuff, what's the point of me thinking about [that], you know? There's really absolutely no point to that.

"We get four chances to compete against them. Last week went well. I get another chance here in a few weeks."

Scottie Scheffler doubles down

Before the 2024 Players Championship, Scheffler told reporters that if fans were upset about the divide in men's golf they should look at those who left.

The aforementioned Rahm and DeChambeau were joined by the likes of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith and Phil Mickelson.

An agreement is still yet to be reached between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's PIF to bring the best in the world back together more than four times a year.

Asked for an update, Scheffler said: "I mean, I really don't know.

"That's for the higher-ups to decide. I have said it a few times this year. If you want to figure out what's going to happen in the game of golf, go to the other tour and ask those guys.

"I'm still here playing the PGA Tour. We had a tour where we all played together, and the guys that left, it's their responsibility I think to bring the tours back together.

"Go see where they're playing this week and ask them."

LIV Golf are not in action this week.

The breakaway tour are heading to Virginia in June before the U.S. Open for their eighth stop of the season.
