It might only be Friday but Scottie Scheffler already appears on the verge of recording his first PGA Tour title of the season at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Scheffler, 28, fired a stunning 10-under 61 on day one and he then returned to TPC Craig Ranch on Friday to shoot an equally impressive 63.

The World No.1 now lies 18-under par and six shots ahead of his nearest pursuer Sam Stevens, albeit half the field has yet to complete their second rounds.

Friday's play was severely interrupted by a lengthy delay due to lightning in the Dallas area.

The 13-time PGA Tour winner tucked away a 12-footer for eagle on the par-5 18th, his 9th hole of the round, just before the horn blew for a suspension of play.

He then went birdie mad when returning to play the front nine some six hours later.

Scheffler birdied the 1st and 2nd before adding three more in a row from the 5th.

He then added a sixth birdie of the round on the par-5 9th to shoot an 8-under 63.

"Feeling good," said Scheffler after the round.

"I had two nice days. We'll see how the scores shake out as more guys come in.

"Overall, very pleased with how I played. Yeah, pretty good. Go home, get a little bit of rest, and get ready for tomorrow."

Scheffler, who won seven official titles on the PGA Tour last season en route to winning the FedEx Cup, has been constantly reminded he has yet to register a victory in 2025.

But it would now appear a matter of 48 hours until Scheffler etches his name on yet more PGA Tour silverware.

Half the field has yet to complete their second round, and they will return early on Saturday morning to try and eat into Scheffler's lead.

On current evidence thru two rounds though, Scheffler looks unbeatable and back in the form that saw him win nine times in 2024.

The bookmakers certainly think it's all over, with Scheffler's odds to win The CJ Cup Byron Nelson already slashed down to 1/10.

Scheffler has decided not to participate in next week's $20m Truist Championship, the latest Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.

It's understood that is down to him wanting to best prepare for the following week's PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club by taking the week off.
