Newly released footage shows Tiger Woods calling U.S. President Donald Trump moments after his car crash and subsequent DUI arrest in Florida.
Bodycam video, obtained by TMZ Sports, captures the aftermath of the incident, which occurred just minutes from Woods’ home in Jupiter Island on Friday 27 March.
The golf legend was involved in a rollover crash when his Range Rover overturned after he clipped the back of a trailer being toed by a truck. According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods displayed “signs of impairment,” with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes.
Newly-released bodycam footage later revealed Woods was carrying prescription medication, including hydrocodone, an opioid commonly used to treat chronic pain.
In one of the latest video clips, Woods, 50, is seen stepping away from officers before returning to the scene while finishing a phone call. As he approaches, Woods can be heard saying: “Thank you so much, all right, bye,” before informing officers: “Yeah, I was talking to the President.”
Police then instructed Woods to remain at the scene as the situation unfolds.
WIthin the video footage, Woods also described the golf-avid U.S. President Trump as “very apologetic” during their conversation.
That remark is believed to relate to comments Trump made the previous evening on Fox News, where he claimed Woods would not be competing at The Masters — despite the 15-time major champion not having publicly made a decision at the time.
The release of the video has sparked widespread reaction online, with many questioning why Woods chose to contact Trump immediately after the crash.
