After Straka chipped in to square the match on the 2nd, Rahm drills a great tee shot to 15 feet at the tricky 3rd and judges the putt to perfection. Scheffler can't match him, and Europe go 1up.
Lovely moment for the lone rookie on the European team.
Rasmus Hojgaard finds the short grass with a 330-yard drive, clips his second to 7 feet and rolls in the putt for birdie.
But, it's not enough to win the hole as Thomas pops one in from similar range.
Sepp Straka looked a little nervous on the 1st hole, but he's got his chest puffed out on the 2nd.
Scheffler and Spaun both pulls their drives left, Rahm finds the semi-rough and Straka splits the fairway.
The Austrian punched in a nice second which catches the rear-left fringe and, and he chips in for the only birdie of the group.

The noise ramps up on the first tee with the arrival of DeChambeau, who is warmly greeted by his President. And Bryson's drive was a carbon copy of his opening blow this morning, landing on the fairway around 30 yards short of the green.
But Fleetwood and Rose clip their second shots to inside 10 feet, while Bryson goes 6 feet long.
Fleetwood rattles in his putt for a 3, and DeChambeau follows him in.

In a repeat of the morning session, the USA win the first hole of the afternoon fourballs.
Straka and Rahm can't find the cup for birdie, and US Open champion JJ Spaun taps in for a nice 3 that will settle his nerves.
Always nice to start your Ryder Cup career with a winning birdie!
William Hill have made Luke Donald's side favourites to retain the Ryder Cup.
Outright:
Europe – 8/11
USA – 11/8
Tie – 11/1
With President Trump watching on, the opening fourballs match is away.
Four good biffs, but none of them find the fairway. But Spaun pitches close from the rough, with Rahm 15 feet long and Straka coming up just short of the green.

And that is that for the foursomes.
It was a brave effort from Hovland and MacIntyre, but the birdie they needed to square the bottom match on the last was a tough ask after Hovland carved his drive into the thick stuff on the right.
Bobby Mac could not reach the green from an awful lie and, after Schauffele clipped his approach in close, the match was conceded to get some red on the board.
Keegan Bradley believes the appearance of President Donald Trump will inspire a USA comeback in the afternoon fourballs.
"It's not exactly what we wanted, but we know the Ryder Cup is going to be ebbs and flows, and I've got a lot of faith in our boys," said the US captain.
"We just had the President fly over in Air Force One, so I've got a feeling things are going to turn here."
There's red back on the board in the final foursomes match.
The European ball is plugged in the sand and Hovland can only gouge it out to 8 feet. Cantlay lags to a couple of inches, and MacIntyre can't find the cup with his par putt.
USA 1 up with one to play
There's a lot of indecision on the tee at the short 17th from MacIntyre, who gets some grief from the fans as he backs off and asks his caddie for a second opinion.
It's a clean strike, but he doesn't get the draw he wanted and he finds the left bunker.
Schauffele nails his 8-iron, and it's a great shot to 20 feet.
Proper golf here, and it's another good iron to 12 feet from MacIntyre, while Schauffele gets his a foot or two closer.
Hovland has holed some great putts today, but his birdie try slides by on the low side to open the door for Cantlay.
But the American's effort doesn't even scare the hole, and we stay all square heading to 17.

Wow, you could almost hear a pin drop at a stunned Bethpage right now.
An awful drive from Schauffele cannons into the stands, and both pairs can't find the green in regulation.
MacIntyre and Cantlay both hit decent pitches to around 6 feet and, after Cantlay misreads his par putt, Hovland nails his centre cup.
All square, 3 holes to play, and the sweep is ON!
Matt Fitzpatrick has been in great form since The Open, and he enjoyed being paired up with the talented young Swede as they crushed world No 1 Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley 4&3.
“I have played well over the last few months and Ludvig has not stopped playing well since he turned pro! It was a nice mix of playing well tee-to-green and some good putting," said the Englishman.
And Aberg added: “We came out of the gates early and played good golf. We hit a lot of nice shots and we made it hard for them. I had a great partner.”
Hovland's tee shot to the short 14th catches the fringe, while Cantlay's is pin-high but spins back to 25 feet away.
Schauffele lags for a gimme par, and Bobby Mac gets a little aggressive with his putt for the win, but Hovland holes from 4 feet to keep Europe just 1 down.
Keegan Bradley is looking a little pale and pensive right now!
The momentum in the bottom foursomes match is all with Europe now, and Hovland holes from 6 feet for birdie for their second win on the bounce.
USA just 1 up now with 5 to play.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg beat Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley 5&3.
What a session for Europe, and Fitzpatrick has played arguably the best golf of the morning.
Both teams are in trouble off the tee at the 15th and Scheffler and Fitz are unable to find the dance floor.
Scheffler's 25-footer for par misses the target, and Fitzpatrick gets his to drop to give the Europeans a cracking win over the world No 1.
The final foursomes of this session is far from over.
MacIntyre smacks a superb 230-yard second from the rough to inside 10 feet and Schauffele also does well to find the green from the longer grass.
But Cantlay's putt is just short, and Hovland rolls his in to reduce the arrears.

Rory McIlroy & Tommy Fleetwood beat Collin Morikawa and Harris English 5&4.
Exceptional performance from Fleetwood Mac in match 3.
They were 6-under par for the day after 14, and that's where it ends as the USA pair can't make the birdie they need to extend the contest.
Jon Rahm & Tyrrell Hatton beat Bryson DeChambeau & Justin Thomas 4&3
The opening foursomes is all over on the 15th. DeChambeau carved his drive into the grandstand on the right, although Thomas does well to get his second onto the green, albeit over 60 feet away.
Hatton, meanwhile, hits another great iron to 12 feet.
Bryson rolls a tricky putt down the hill, Rahm's tentative birdie putt is short, and Thomas misses from 6 feet and it's blue on the board in match 1.
