Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler's caddie Ted Scott got in a heated exchange with Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood  and vice-captain Francesco Molinari as tensions boiled over when leaving the 15th green during their afternoon fourballs match at the Ryder Cup.

The incident happened when Rose was lining up his putt, and he felt DeChambeau had stepped in too much while it was his turn.

Rose asked him to move, and then that's when things reached boiling point as they all trudged off the green.

It had shades of Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay's caddie Joe LaCava on the Saturday night last time around in Rome.

Only this one thankfully didn't end up concluding in the car park.

Rose and Fleetwood had just moved into a commanding 3up lead on the 14th hole, and it looked to have knocked the stuffing out of the star-studded pairing of DeChambeau and World No.1 Scheffler.

Then things kicked off on the 15th.

But the English duo held their nerves to see out a 3&2 victory, and inflict a fourth consecutive defeat on Scheffler at Bethpage this week.

Rose and Fleetwood discussed their altercation with Scott and DeChambeau with Sky Sports immediately after their victory.

"I was waiting to putt… I felt like they came up again," said Rose.

"It was taken the wrong way… it was an amazing match honestly."

Fleetwood added: "It’s one moment. You’re out there, it happens. It’s not that big of a deal."

As the incident took place on the 15th green, Sky Sports Golf's Nick Dougherty said: "Bryson's got that all wrong, what are you doing?"

Rose then spoke more openly about the incident with Golf Channel:

"It was a shame that the match got to that point because it was actually a really great match," said Rose.

"I was waiting to putt, the boys were obviously working on their read, obviously going through a lot of their sort of whatever, calculations and bits and pieces, so I sort of waited a few seconds and then I felt like they came up again and I was sort of -- I questioned whether -- I was like, it's my putt, right, or however I said it. Maybe I didn't say it as politely as I could have said it in the moment, but by no means was there any disrespect or anything like that, but obviously it was taken the wrong way.

"Yeah, I don't think we should dwell on that, honestly. I said to the boys, if you want me to say, excuse me, please, then yeah, my bad, but it was an amazing match honestly. I think we got off to a great start. The quality of golf was exceptional. Tommy played incredible around the turn in the middle of the back nine, and it was an epic match to be a part of."

When pressed further on whether the issue has been put to bed ahead of the Sunday singles, Rose replied: "Listen, I hope so. I spoke to the boys. It should be in my opinion. There was no intent behind it whatsoever.

"Like I said, I think especially Scottie, the way -- I admire him more than anybody else out on Tour the way he goes about his business, the way he goes about his life, and obviously just huge respect all around.

"But my from my point of view, it was something that was sort of taken in a way that wasn't intended in a way, but obviously it was a big putt, big moment. I'm trying to control my environment as well in that scenario. We're all competitors, right, so I think that's all within the framework of what we've got to do out here.

"But yeah, happy days, I think, all around."
