Bryson DeChambeau on Rory McIlroy: "I can only speak for myself, I can't speak for Rory"
Bryson DeChambeau says he plans to continue trying to be an entertainer as he opened up on Rory McIlroy's behaviour during the final round of The Masters.
Bryson DeChambeau says he plans to continue 'being an entertainer' as he opened up on Rory McIlroy's behaviour during the final round of the 2025 Masters.
McIlroy and his sports psychologist Dr Bob Rotella decided it would be part of the gameplan not to engage with DeChambeau during that Sunday at Augusta National.
The 35-year-old achieved golf's career grand slam with his first ever Masters victory after overcoming Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff.
Victory was made all the more special for McIlroy given he beat the man that pipped him to the 2024 U.S. Open title at Pinehurst No.2.
DeChambeau later hit the headlines when he was asked about McIlroy's mood during the emotionally-exhausting final round.
"Didn't talk to me once all day," he said.
The American was asked about the exchange once again after the first round of LIV's stop in Korea.
After 18 holes, DeChambeau shares the lead with LIV's 2023 individual champion Talor Gooch.
DeChambeau is attempting to win for the first time on LIV in 2025.
He came close in Mexico but that was overshadowed by his fury at the state of the bunkers.
"I can only speak for myself," DeChambeau said. "I can't speak for Rory.
"What I can say about myself is that I genuinely care about the game of golf and growing it globally and inspiring a bunch of people and kids, especially kids, to play this great game."
He added: "So it's my duty, as not only a professional golfer, but a bit of an entertainer, to interact and be as authentic as I possibly can be with myself and with my fans.
"I think it's my responsibility to do so. I'll continue to keep doing that because that's what I believe in."
McIlroy is currently taking a brief break from golf.
He will be back in action on the PGA Tour at the Truist Championship before he heads to Quail Hollow for the U.S. PGA Championship.
The golfer recently revealed what Tiger Woods told him via text in the immediate aftermath of his Masters victory.
