US Open 2025 Live: Round One Scores, Leaderboard Updates, Tee Times and Highlights from Oakmont

US Open 2025 Live: First Round LIVE leaderboard and updates from golf's third major of the season at famed Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

LIVE: US OPEN SECOND ROUND

JJ Spaun posted the lowest round of his major career to vault into the first-round lead at the 2025 US Open.

Spaun, 34, carded a flawless 4-under 66 to hit the front at famed Oakmont Country Club.

It was the first bogey-free round in a US Open at Oakmont since Dustin Johnson's first round in 2016.

Spaun will be hoping that's a good omen since Johnson went on to win his first major title that week.

One-time PGA Tour winner Spaun incredibly made 18 of 19 putts inside of 20 feet during his round of 66.

South Africa's Thriston Lawrence also got off to a fast start with a 3-under 67.

Lawrence, who came close to winning his first major at The Open last July, entered this week off the back of seven missed cuts in eight starts.

Elsewhere, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, twice a winner of the US Open, bounced back to his best with a solid 2-under 68 alongside South Korean duo Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im.

Koepka was the last player to successfully defend the US Open in 2018.

Former US Open champion Jon Rahm is also in the red at 1-under par alongside in-form PGA Tour pro Ben Griffin.

US OPEN ROUND 2 TEE TIMES

However, the three tournament favourites starting the week in Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy all had opening rounds to forget.

Scheffler, who started the week a red-hot favourite at the lowest major odds since Tiger Woods in 2009, has it all to do at 3-over par.

DeChambeau, who is attempting to become the first player to successfully defend the US Open since his LIV Golf peer Koepka, matched Scheffler's round of 73.

McIlroy, who has switched his driver again, fared a shot worse with a 4-over 74.

It promised much more when McIlroy started out with two early birdies but he came back in 41 shots.

McIlroy then once again shunned media requests just as he did all four tournament days at the PGA Championship.

Birdie for Scheffler

Scheffler +1 (7)

Much needed birdie for Scheffler at the par-4 7th.

He split the fairway and sent a short iron in to 15 feet.

Scheffler curled home his ball from left to right into the heart of the cup.

The birdie moves Scheffler back to 1-over.

That's five back.

Scheffler sluggish start

Scheffler  +2 (6)

This is a woeful start for Scheffler.

He's just made a third bogey in six holes to fall to 2-over par.

Not the start anyone expected for the red-hot pre-tournament favourite and a man who has won three of the last four events on the PGA Tour including last month's PGA.

Long way to go, mind.

20:07
Fast start for Burns

Burns -3 (6)

One of my outside tips Sam Burns is off to a flyer with three birdies on the first six holes.

Burns was agonisingly denied a sixth PGA Tour title  when losing out to Ryan Fox in a playoff at the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday night.

But the American has dusted himself down and maintained his good form in the early stages of the US Open.

Burns is 3-under par thru six holes and up into an tie for second.

He is seeking a first major title.

19:53
Great two-putt for Jordan Spieth

Spieth E, Rahm +1, Johnson +2 (5*)

Jordan Spieth remains at level par after two-putting from 70 feet on the 14th.

His giant birdie putt eventually stops about five or six feet past the hole and he is up to the task.

Jon Rahm and DJ are in for pars as well.

19:47
Another par for Koepka

Koepka -2, Thomas +2, Lee +1 (5)

From 17 feet, Koepka burns the edge of the hole with a birdie putt at the 5th.

It's an easy par.

He looks as though he's got a bit of swagger about him today.

"He is grinding," says his coach Claude Harmon III on Sky Sports.

"I've never seen him hit so many balls in the last couple of months.

"It's great to see the work paying off."

19:44
PATRICK REED ALBATROSS!

Reed -1 (4)

Wow. Patrick Reed has just made an albatross at the par-5 4th.

Shot tracking suggested Reed jarred his approach from 286 yards.

We'll get some video shortly...

19:43
Back-to-back bogeys for Scheffler

Scheffler +1, Hovland +2, Morikawa -1 (4)

Scheffler makes his second bogey in a row.

Things aren't going to plan at the minute for the 28-year-old.

19:41
Another mistake from Scheffler

Hovland +2, Morikawa -1, Scheffler E (3)

Scheffler is wayward again with his tee shot at the 4th and has to chip back into play.

Looks like it could be another dropped shot here...

19:37
How did Rory McIlroy play today?

Rory McIlroy was chugging along nicely after nine holes in the first round of the US Open at Oakmont, only for the wheels to fall off spectacularly on the way home.

McIlroy, 36, started on the 10th and raced out the blocks with birdies on the 11th and 12th.

The Masters champion went out in 2-under and all appeared well in the world of McIlroy.

But things sadly went south from there.

19:33
Brutal lip out for Jon Rahm

Spieth E, Rahm +1, Johnson +2 (3*)

Brutal lip out for birdie at the par-5 12th for Jon Rahm.

The Spaniard left himself what he would've contended was a simple birdie putt, but his ball catches the lip and darts left.

He'll remain at 1-over.

DJ paid the price for missing the green but escapes with a bogey by holing a five-footer.

19:28
Lawrence posts 67

Lawrence -3 (67)

Superb start from Thriston Lawrence.

The big South African, who played brilliantly at last summer's Open at Royal Troon, comes home in 32 strokes to sign for a 3-under 67.

He's one behind JJ Spaun.

19:26
Scheffler limits the damage

Hovland +2, Morikawa -1, Scheffler E (3)

We mentioned Scheffler was in a bit of trouble.

But he knocks in his bogey putt to limit the damage and drop back to level.

Collin Morikawa, meanwhile, tucks away his short birdie putt to trade places with Scheffler on the leaderboard.

19:22
Brooks Koepka eagle!

Koepka -2, Thomas +1, Lee +1 (4)

Brooks Koepka is on the prowl.

The big-hitting American finds the green in two strokes at the 621-yard par-5 4th and rolls home a bomb from 42 feet to jump to 2-under.

19:20
Mistake from Scheffler

Hovland +2, Morikawa E, Scheffler -1 (2*)

Scottie Scheffler's tee shot at the 3rd is heading towards the Church Pews bunker.

The American is fortunate that his golf ball actually finds a patch of grass.

His approach looks okay in the air, but when it lands on putting surface his golf ball settles in an awkward spot in the first cut of rough.

Scheffler's can't keep his chip on the green and somehow he's putting from the fringe to try and save par.

That doesn't drop, either.

Can he salvage a bogey?

19:09
Scottie Scheffler's best pal starts fast

Burns -2 (3)

Sam Burns has raced out of the blocks here with two birdies in his first three holes.

19:04
Perfect start for Scottie Scheffler

Hovland +2, Morikawa E, Scheffler -1 (1)

Scottie Scheffler is already putting on a stripe show.

The World No.1 finds fairway at the 11th and knocks his approach from approximately 100 yards to about six feet and confidently rolls in the birdie putt.

Morikawa chips past the flag but two-putts for a par.

Hovland, though, can't save his par.

19:01
Sensational bogey save from Justin Thomas

Thomas +1, Koepka E, Lee +1 (3)

Justin Thomas does extremely well just to make a bogey at the 3rd.

His tee shot is absolutely fine but his approach is a smidge short and rolls off the green.

Thomas appears to get a little bit cute his with greenside chip and takes a weird stab at the ball.

He's lucky that didn't come back to his feet.

His fourth? Long.

It's looking like a double or worse, but JT rolls in a bogey putt from 23 feet.

18:55
Bogey for Rahm

Spieth +1, Rahm +1, Johnson +1 (2*)

Not great from this group, who all depart the 11th green with a bogey on their card.

Spieth takes three putts from 26 feet, Rahm can't get up and down from the back of the green and Johnson also pays the price for missing the fairway and missing the green with his approach.

18:46
Scheffler par

Hovland +1, Morikawa E, Scheffler E (1)

Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa both have 15 or so feet for birdie at the 10th but neither can take advantage.

Hovland's approach takes a wicked bounce and, despite rolling his 35-footer to about four feet, he pushes his par putt.

18:44
Fast start for Tyrrell Hatton

T. Hatton -1 (1)

Talk about a great start.

Tyrrell Hatton finds the fairway at the 10th and sends a decent approach to the green that eventually settles some 30 feet from the hole.

He would have happily taken a par to start but rolls in an opening birdie putt...

18:40
Solid start from Brooks Koepka

Koepka E, Thomas E, Lee +1 (2*)

Decent starts for Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas.

Koepka missed the cut at the PGA Championship and The Masters so will be looking to bounce back with a good performance this week, especially with the Ryder Cup looming.

He tucks away two pars to start the 2025 US Open, as does Thomas.

And it looks like Koepka has got a great chance for a birdie at the 3rd...

18:32
Rahm starts with a par

Spieth E, Rahm E, Johnson E (1*)

Just ahead of Scheffler's group is Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson.

All three players walk off their first hole with a par.

Spieth had the best look for birdie from approximately eight feet but his effort didn't trouble the hole.

18:30
Scottie Scheffler tees off in the 2025 US Open

Here comes the best player in the world.

Scottie Scheffler told reporters in his news conference on Monday that Oakmont was likely going to be the hardest course he'll ever play.

How will he handle the test?

The American is starting on the back nine.

He finds the fairway with his first tee shot.

His playing partners Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa also find the short stuff.

Strap yourselves in.

18:25
Not a good start for Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau

McIlroy +4 (74), Lowry +9 (79), Rose +7 (77)

Rory McIlroy has just put the finishing touches on a poor back nine.

It was all going so well for the 36-year-old, who kept a clean card through nine holes.

But four bogeys and one double bogey ruined McIlroy's card.

We'll see if McIlroy heads off to do a bit of practice or if he wants to speak to the media.
