Rory McIlroy appears to have made up his mind over which driver he will use ahead of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.
Rory McIlroy appears to have made up his mind over which driver he will be using for the 2025 U.S. Open.
McIlroy arrives at Oakmont a week removed from one of his worst performances on the PGA Tour in years.
The Northern Irishman made a swift exit from the RBC Canadian Open after he shot rounds of 71 and 78 to miss the cut by a staggering 12 strokes.
Not only was it was his first missed cut since last July's Open Championship, it was only the fifth time he has recorded a score of 78 or worse on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy's worst round ever as a professional came at the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills where he recorded a 10-over par 80 in round one.
Part of the reason why he struggled last week at TPC Toronto was his failure to find the fairways.
McIlroy routinely missed left with his TaylorMade Qi35.
He told reporters before flying home that he was planning on using his final days of preparation testing out some new drivers.
His gamer driver was deemed non-conforming just before the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
McIlroy described the driver as the 'missing piece' from his game and revealed it was a concern heading to Oakmont.
On Tuesday, McIlroy was spotted using with his trusty Qi10 once again as he played a practice round alongside Shane Lowry.
The club has been in his bag since its release at the start of 2024.
Reports on the ground suggested he drove Oakmont's 300-yard par-4 17th.
