US Open 2025 Live: Round One Scores, Leaderboard Updates, Tee Times and Highlights from Oakmont

US Open 2025 Live: First Round LIVE leaderboard and updates from golf's third major of the season at famed Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

LIVE: US OPEN SECOND ROUND

JJ Spaun posted the lowest round of his major career to vault into the first-round lead at the 2025 US Open.

Spaun, 34, carded a flawless 4-under 66 to hit the front at famed Oakmont Country Club.

It was the first bogey-free round in a US Open at Oakmont since Dustin Johnson's first round in 2016.

Spaun will be hoping that's a good omen since Johnson went on to win his first major title that week.

One-time PGA Tour winner Spaun incredibly made 18 of 19 putts inside of 20 feet during his round of 66.

South Africa's Thriston Lawrence also got off to a fast start with a 3-under 67.

Lawrence, who came close to winning his first major at The Open last July, entered this week off the back of seven missed cuts in eight starts.

Elsewhere, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, twice a winner of the US Open, bounced back to his best with a solid 2-under 68 alongside South Korean duo Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im.

Koepka was the last player to successfully defend the US Open in 2018.

Former US Open champion Jon Rahm is also in the red at 1-under par alongside in-form PGA Tour pro Ben Griffin.

US OPEN ROUND 2 TEE TIMES

However, the three tournament favourites starting the week in Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy all had opening rounds to forget.

Scheffler, who started the week a red-hot favourite at the lowest major odds since Tiger Woods in 2009, has it all to do at 3-over par.

DeChambeau, who is attempting to become the first player to successfully defend the US Open since his LIV Golf peer Koepka, matched Scheffler's round of 73.

McIlroy, who has switched his driver again, fared a shot worse with a 4-over 74.

It promised much more when McIlroy started out with two early birdies but he came back in 41 shots.

McIlroy then once again shunned media requests just as he did all four tournament days at the PGA Championship.

Some reaction from our leader

JJ Spaun is doing his media duties now after signing for a 4-under 66.

He told Sky Sports he had no idea what to expect when he teed off this morning.

And it probably helped.

"My strategy was to take what the course gave me," he said.

"I scrambled well, putted well and that's the recipe you need to have a bogey-free round at the US Open.

"I had no idea what to expect teeing off this morning, as far as history here, never being here and this is only my second US Open.

"Maybe that freed me up, where I didn't have to worry about certain expectations.

"I'll take a bogey-free 66 at the US Open."

DeChambeau posts 73

DeChambeau +3 (73), Schauffele +2 (72)

The defending champion settles for a par on the last to sign for a 3-over 73.

The LIV Golf recruit is currently seven strokes adrift of the lead, which is nothing in a US Open.

Schauffele sinks a 25-footer to return a card for a 72.

18:10
Which players are teeing off in the afternoon wave?

Scottie Scheffler is among the later starters on day one of the US Open.

Scheffler tees off at 18.25 BST alongside Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa.

The likes of Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Sam Burns, Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Tyrrell Hatton, Jason Day and Joaquin Niemann will be teeing off shortly.

Rory McIlroy is starting to unravel

McIlroy +4, Lowry +9, Rose +5 (17*)

Disaster for Rory McIlroy here at the long par-3 8th.

He misses the putting surface with his tee shot and tries to play a flop shot into the centre of the green, but his golf ball only travels a few yards...

His third is better but the Masters champion cannot salvage a bogey.

Lowry also trudges off the green with a dropped shot...

17:51
Griffin to T2

B.Griffin  -2 (17*)

Griffin continues his impressive play with a stunning birdie on the daunting par-3 8th measuring 276 yards today.

He stiffs his tee shot to a few feet and rolls in a third birdie of the day to move to 2-under par.

That's up into a tie for second.

Griffin two back as he goes in search of a first major title on his US Open debut.

Rory having a shocker

McIlroy +2 (16*)

The day started so well for McIlroy.

But it's ending horribly.

The World No.2 has just three-jabbed from 35 feet on the par-4 7th, his 16th hole of the round.

McIlroy sent his birdie putt some seven feet past the hole and he then missed the return.

It's a fourth bogey in seven holes for McIlroy, who slips back to 2-over par.

He only had a wedge in his hands for his approach shot, too.

McIlroy is now six back.

Spaun finishes day at 4-under

Spaun -4 (F)

JJ Spaun, take a bow.

It's the lowest round of his major career.

Spaun two-putts the par-4 9th for a flawless round of 4-under 66.

It's the only bogey-free round so far today.

Spaun also becomes the first player to go bogey-free in a US Open at Oakmont since Dustin Johnson in the first round in 2016.

The one-time PGA Tour winner will be hoping that's a good omen as DJ went on to win that week.

17:36
Aberg misses a tiddler

Aberg +1 (17*)

It had been looking like a really solid opening round from Sweden's Aberg.

But the wheels have unfortunately come off on the way home.

He's just missed a short three-footer on the par-3 17th.

It marks a third bogey in four holes.

Aberg is now 1-over par as he heads down his final hole, the par-4 9th.

17:34
DeChambeau to 3-over

DeChambeau +3 (16)

DeChambeau makes a third bogey in his last five holes and it pushes the defending champion back to 3-over par.

That is seven off the pace right now.

DeChambeau is looking to become the first player to successfully defend the US Open since Brooks Koepka in 2018.

It's certainly not the start many people anticipated for DeChambeau.

Spaun only bogey-free round on course

Spaun  -4 (17*)

Spaun makes another big par save, this time from 10 feet at the 8th.

The American is the only player currently on the course without a bogey.

Spaun is making his ninth major appearance this week.

He only has one PGA Tour title to his name, coming at the 2022 Valero Texas Open.

Spaun is ranked 25th in the world.

17:23
McIlroy bogey

McIlroy +1 (15*)

It's a third bogey in his last six holes for McIlroy, who slips to over par for the first time all round.

He's now five off the pace.

Griffin continues to impress

Griffin -1 (13)

In-form Ben Griffin has just popped in a second birdie of the day on the par-5 4th to get back into the red on 1-under par.

Griffin, who has won twice on the PGA Tour the last two months, can do little wrong at the moment - even if Jack Nicklaus doesn't think he's that good at golf.

His namesake Lanto Griffin - no relation - is also on the same score thru 11 holes.

Bogey, bogey for Aberg

Aberg Par (15*)

Tough 20-minute spell for Aberg, who bogeys the 5th and 6th to fall back to level par.

16:55
Big par save from the leader

Spaun  -4 (15*)

Spaun found the  bunker on the par-3 6th and he splashed out to 25 feet.

But just like McIlroy and DeChambeau, Spaun instantly limited the damage by holing the putt.

Spaun remains out in front at 4-under par.

He's now two shots clear after 2019 US Open champion Woodland  dropped a shot on the 12th.

16:41
McIlroy huge bogey save

McIlroy Par (13*)

Oakmont is slowly but surely biting back.

McIlroy sprayed his tee shot right into the hay on the par-5 4th.

After taking three shots to get back onto short grass, McIlroy sent a long iron into the heart of the green to 40 feet.

But just as Bryson did a moment ago, McIlroy dusted himself down and canned the long  putt for bogey.

A huge bogey save in the end.

16:25
DeChambeau makes a gutsy bogey-six on 12

DeChambeau +1 (12)

DeChambeau chunked not one, two but THREE chips in the deep rough by the left side of the green at the par-5 12th.

But when it all looked to be adding up to a huge number and taking him out of the tournament, DeChambeau pulled out his putter from the first cut of rough and rolled his ball into the cup for gutsy bogey-six.

The LIV Golf superstar limits the damage and he falls back to 1-over par, which is five shots back of JJ Spaun, who has just made par on his 14th hole.

16:18
Lowry hole out eagle

Lowry +4 (12*)

It's been a shocking start to the US Open for Shane Lowry,  but things are looking up for him.

The Irishman has just holed out his approach shot for eagle at the par-4 12th.

Lowry conservatively raises his hand aloft with a wry smile after having been one of those days.

But there's a long way to go still.

Lowry back to 4-over par and eight back.

Leaderboard update

Thanks Ben.

I think it's time for a leaderboard update.

Only nine players are under par right now.

McIlroy does well

McIlroy -1, Lowry +4, Rose +4 (10*)

We mentioned McIlroy was in trouble off the tee after finding the thick rough short of the second green.

The Northern Irishman opts to play a chunk and run up the green.

His golf ball looks like it's threatening to roll back off the dancefloor so McIlroy sprints to mark it.

15:57
Another par for Bryson

DeChambeau E, Schauffele +2 (11)

Bryson has another decent look at birdie, from 16 feet, at the 11th but cannot make.

Schauffele matches the defending champion.

15:46
First mistake from Rory McIlroy

McIlroy -1, Lowry +4, Rose +4 (10*)

Rory McIlroy makes his first bogey of the day at the par-4 1st.

He found the fairway but his approach, with a wedge, comes up short.

Despite barely nudging his long-range birdie putt, his TP5 just keeps on going.

And he can't make the par save coming back.

And just as I type these words, McIlroy is well right with his tee shot at the 2nd...

McIlroy asks his caddie Harry Diamond: "It's fine there, right?"

We'll see.

15:41
JJ Spaun continues his brilliant round

Spaun -4 (12*)

Our leader sends his approach to the third over the back of the green but plays a delightful chip to a matter of inches.

That'll be the fourth time today he's got up and down to save par...

15:39
DeChambeau starts his back nine with a par

DeChambeau E, Schauffele +2 (10)

Bryson and Xander both have decent looks for birdie at the 10th but settle for pars.

DeChambeau hits a brilliant tee shot down the 11th. "That's perfect position," says Sky Sports Paul McGinley. "He's driving the ball brilliantly today."

15:33
Phil the thrill claws his way back to level

Mickelson E (8*)

Lefty made a double bogey on the 15th but has since bounced back with back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th.

He finds the middle of the fairway at the 18th...
