US Open 2025 Live: Round One Scores, Leaderboard Updates, Tee Times and Highlights from Oakmont

US Open 2025 Live: First Round LIVE leaderboard and updates from golf's third major of the season at famed Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

LIVE: US OPEN SECOND ROUND

JJ Spaun posted the lowest round of his major career to vault into the first-round lead at the 2025 US Open.

Spaun, 34, carded a flawless 4-under 66 to hit the front at famed Oakmont Country Club.

It was the first bogey-free round in a US Open at Oakmont since Dustin Johnson's first round in 2016.

Spaun will be hoping that's a good omen since Johnson went on to win his first major title that week.

One-time PGA Tour winner Spaun incredibly made 18 of 19 putts inside of 20 feet during his round of 66.

South Africa's Thriston Lawrence also got off to a fast start with a 3-under 67.

Lawrence, who came close to winning his first major at The Open last July, entered this week off the back of seven missed cuts in eight starts.

Elsewhere, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, twice a winner of the US Open, bounced back to his best with a solid 2-under 68 alongside South Korean duo Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im.

Koepka was the last player to successfully defend the US Open in 2018.

Former US Open champion Jon Rahm is also in the red at 1-under par alongside in-form PGA Tour pro Ben Griffin.

US OPEN ROUND 2 TEE TIMES

However, the three tournament favourites starting the week in Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy all had opening rounds to forget.

Scheffler, who started the week a red-hot favourite at the lowest major odds since Tiger Woods in 2009, has it all to do at 3-over par.

DeChambeau, who is attempting to become the first player to successfully defend the US Open since his LIV Golf peer Koepka, matched Scheffler's round of 73.

McIlroy, who has switched his driver again, fared a shot worse with a 4-over 74.

It promised much more when McIlroy started out with two early birdies but he came back in 41 shots.

McIlroy then once again shunned media requests just as he did all four tournament days at the PGA Championship.

Tidy front nine for McIlroy

McIlroy -2, Rose +4, +4 (9)

Rory McIlroy pars the 18th, his ninth hole of the day, to keep a clean card going.

What will please the Masters champion is that, even though he's been forced to make a couple of saves, he's barely been in any trouble off the tee.

Lowry and Rose continue their nightmare starts with bogeys.

15:25
Silly mistake from Bryson

DeChambeau E, Schauffele +2 (9)

Silly mistake out of nowhere for the reigning champ, who finds the fairway with his tee shot at the par-4 9th but somehow ends up three-putting from 38 feet.

Schauffele is hanging tough. The American is forced to hack his golf ball back into the fairway after his tee shot hooks left into the rough.

From 160 yards, Schauffele sends his approach to a matter of inches for a gimme par.

15:22
DeChambeau escapes the 8th with a par

DeChambeau -1, Schauffele +2 (8*)

Bryson's on the long par-3 8th. His tee shot settles short and right of the green. That's no problem there. He chips on and saves par.

Schauffele, on the other hand, takes the scenic route. His tee shot finds the native area left of the green but he somehow manages to save par from 14 feet after playing a delightful second.

That is some save.

15:18
Ben Griffin continues to shine

Griffin -1 (9*)

Ben Griffin won't admit it but it likely now targeting a spot in the US Ryder Cup team.

Griffin followed his top-10 finish at last month's PGA Championship with his first PGA Tour title at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

He also played in the final group alongside Scottie Scheffler at the Memorial two weeks ago.

Griffin hasn't dropped a shot today....

Here's a look at what just happened to Shane Lowry
15:11
Gutsy par save from McIlroy

McIlroy -2, Lowry +3, Rose +3 (7*)

Rory McIlroy finds the rough at the short par-4 17th and then finds the trap with his approach.

He splashes out to seven feet and strokes home the par putt for another fine save.

Meanwhile, the rage is starting to build with Shane Lowry.

Lowry's tee shot settles in the thick rough just short left of the green.

He cannot believe his eyes though, as his wedge gets gobbled up by the thick rough and his ball barely travels a few inches.

Still, he does well to get down in two from there to save his par.

Decent starts by Aberg and Scott

Aberg -2, Scott -2 (9*)

Ludvig Aberg and Adam Scott have played nine holes and both are playing very well.

The young Swede makes a textbook birdie at the par-4 18th. As does the former Masters champ.

Scott's card is quite a sight. Five birdies, three bogeys and one par...

14:56
Trouble for Lowry

McIlroy -2, Lowry +3, Rose +3 (7*)

Rory McIlroy is looking good here but it's all going wrong for his playing partners.

Lowry trudges off the 16th green with a double bogey five.

The former Open champ found the bunker with his tee shot and, after splashing out to about 40 feet, takes three putts.

Rose also makes his third bogey in a row.

14:49
Bryson in the red, trouble for Xander

DeChambeau -1, Schauffele +2, Ballester +4 (7)

Superb stuff from Bryson who rolls in his short birdie putt.

Schauffele makes a double out of absolutely nowhere. His tee shot found the rough and he could only hack out and pitch on.

His par putt races by. As does his bogey putt.

14:46
Checking in on Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood +1 (8*)

It was a rough start to the US Open for Tommy Fleetwood, who opened the major with two consecutive bogeys.

He's working hard and found his first birdie of the day at the par-4 5th. Two more pars followed.

Fleetwood is on the long par-3 8th now. The pin is tucked on the front left, which means there is plenty of room to bail out right.

Fleetwood does just that and chips to about four feet and tidies up the par.

Meanwhile, we are hearing roars from the spectators following DeChambeau...

14:39
Dart from DeChambeau

DeChambeau E (7*)

Bryson looks like he is finding his groove now. He finds the middle of the fairway at the par-4 7th and is all over the flag with his approach. His golf ball stops on a dime some six feet from the hole. Huge birdie chance upcoming.

14:35
Woodland one off the lead

Woodland -3 (5)

Former US Open champion Gary Woodland moves to within one stroke of JJ Spaun with consecutive birdies.

14:32
Pars for Bryson and Xander

Ballester +4, DeChambeau E, Schauffele E (6)

DeChambeau sends a towering iron shot towards the pin at the par-3 6th.

It's a little bit right, though, and settles in the rough about 30 feet from the hole.

He chips to about six feet and manages to find the middle of the cup for a safe par.

Schauffele takes a much safer line and finds the heart of the green.

Can he tidy up the four-footer? Yep.

14:28
JJ Spaun takes two-shot lead at the US Open

Spaun -4 (8*)

Blimey. JJ Spaun finds his second birdie in as many holes at the par-4 17th.

Should he keep this going then he will be posting an incredible target.

14:25
First mistake from Xander Schauffele

Ballester +4, DeChambeau E, Schauffele E (6*)

Xander Schauffele is quietly putting together a string of decent performances over the last few weeks.

Is it all going to come together this week?

The American looks good so far, although he has just made his first mistake at the par-4 5th.

His tee shot went left and, from there, could only muscle his golf ball to the front edge and walked off the green with a bogey after failing to get up and down.

Reigning champion DeChambeau grabs his first birdie of the day though after rolling in what looked like a six-footer.

14:21
Former champion going well

W. Clark -2 (4)

Superb stuff from the 2023 US Open champion, Wyndham Clark, this morning.

The American finds back-to-back birdies at the 3rd and 4th to jump into a share of second place alongside Rory McIlroy, Si Woo Kim and Gary Woodland.

14:15
Big par save from McIlroy

McIlroy -2, Lowry +1, Rose +1 (5*)

McIlroy's drive at the drivable par-4 14th settles in the thick rough short of the green. He can only muscle his golf ball to about 50 feet but judges the weight of his birdie putt perfectly and taps in for par.

Lowry walks away with a par but Rose makes his first mistake. The Englishman paid the price for a wild tee shot that darted left.

14:10
Phil Mickelson gets underway

Mickelson +1 (3)

Phil Mickelson gets underway in what is likely to be his final US Open.

Lefty, 54, needs to win this championship to complete the career grand slam.

He started at the 10th and dropped a shot but has since followed with two consecutive pars.

13:43
McIlroy joins the lead

McIlroy -2 (3*)

McIlroy's fast start continues in the first round of the 2025 US Open.

The Masters champion found the green from just outside of 200 yards with his second shot into the par-5 12th.

He two-putted from 40 feet for a second consecutive birdie and it moves Mcilroy into a tie for the lead with JJ Spaun, who has played five holes.

13:24
McIlroy just pumped it 391 yards!

McIlroy -1 (2*)

McIlroy has just unleashed a 391 yard drive down the par-5 12th.

He's set up a golden chance of another birdie, and who knows, maybe even an eagle from there.

Rory has just 226 yards in to the pin.

McIlroy looks like he's all business today.

13:19
Bogey for Aberg

Aberg -1 (3*)

After starting the round with opening birdies, Aberg has just given a shot back on the par-5 12th.

He made a mess of his bunker shot after coming short in the deep rough but he duly got up and down for bogey when holing out from six feet.

Spaun now leads on his own at 2-under.

13:14
Rory birdie at 2

McIlroy -1 (2*)

McIlroy drills home a 20 footer for birdie on the par-4 11th, his second hole of the round.

It moves the 2011 U.S. Open champion into a tie for second.

Solid start for the Masters champion.

The bookmakers have reacted accordingly with McIlroy already moving into second in the betting odds behind Scheffler, who tees off later in the day.

13:10
Opening birdie for Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick -1 (1)

It's an early  birdie for 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick.

The Englishman drained a 25-footer on the par-4 1st to move into a tie for second.

It's not been the greatest of seasons for Fitzpatrick so far in 2025, but he is showing small signs of a resurgence.

Fitzpatrick will be looking to keep his foot on the gas this week as he looks to throw his hat into the ring for a place on Luke Donald's 2025 European Ryder Cup team at Bethpage in New York this September.

Bogey for Bryson

DeChambeau +1 (1)

Sloppy start for the defending champion on his first hole.

DeChambeau hacked his ball out of the rough to the right side of the green.

His ball came to rest up against the collar but he was only some 20 feet away from the pin.

DeChambeau appeared to catch the top of the ball and it came out with topspin.

He sent his birdie attempt 12 feet past the hole and then missed the return.

An opening bogey for DeChambeau.

Tommy off to a shocker!

Fleetwood +2 (2)

Fleetwood has had to take two drops on his first two holes.

It's led to two opening bogeys for the Englishman, who was hotly tipped by many to play well this week.

Fleetwood is still looking to not only win a first major but also his first title on the PGA Tour.

There's a long way to go this week of course, but the early signs don't look great for Fleetwood.
