While it's not quite a household name just yet, China's Mileseey golf is rapidly gaining plaudits not just for making the extremely affordable entry-level rangefinders you've probably seen on Amazon at least once, but by pushing the very boundaries of golf tech at the other end of the market.

The brand's inventions feel like something plucked out of the future, with GPS-equipped touchscreen rangefinders and other innovative, ultra-modern products now commonplace throughout their collection. However their latest release, unveiled last week at the PGA Show and tested by GolfMagic, might be their most fun yet.

Called the GeneSonic Pro, it represents Mileseey's first foray into the increasingly crowded world of golf-oriented speakers – one already occupied by big name brands like Bushnell and BlueTees. Thanks to some clever features and a heaping helping of modern tech, however, the GeneSonic might have them all bested if you're a golfer who loves to take a GPS-equipped speaker out on the course.

Read on to find out why.

Features & looks

At first glance, there's not a whole lot to separate the Mileseey GeneSonic Pro from other popular household bluetooth speakers. The round, cylindrical shape reminds us of something like a UE Boom or JBL Charge, and its compact shape equips it well for slotting in the pocket of your golf bag or stashing on your bookshelf at home. A magnet rated up to 28lbs also allows it to attach to pretty much any magnetic surface with ease, with zero fear that it'll be dislodged if driving over bumpy terrain.

Beyond the minimalist profile, however, the GeneSonic Pro is packed with tech. As a speaker, it's designed to stand up to the very best names in the audio business, with a 40W output and a dual-band crossover, silk-dome tweeter, racetrack woofer, dual passive radiators working together to deliver a rich, balanced sound stage.

A Mileseey rep actually told me they tuned the sound of the GeneSonic after Bose's equivalent speaker, and the sound quality is right up there as a result. It also has some fun golf-oriented audio speakers, such as the ability to read out your yardages upon request.

The real highlight of the GeneSonic, however, lies in the detachable touchscreen GPS unit that sits snugly in its side. Easily removable, it comes with an included carabiner that allows it to seamlessly attach to your belt loop or golf bag.

Pre-loaded with over 43,000 courses with no data plan or subscription required, it provides detailed course visuals with hazard layouts, green shapes, pin positions, fairway mapping, and automatic course/hole recognition – truly everything you need to play your best golf if a traditional rangefinder isn't really your thing.

Performance

The GeneSonic delivers on its promises in pretty much every facet. The sound it produces is rich and balanced, while its 40W output allows it to be loud enough to carry across open outdoor spaces such as a golf course. Mileseey have also engineered the software with three different modes to suit different settings: Golf Mode helps your music carry further, home mode provides more balanced sound, and Party mode cranks up the bass.

The GPS, meanwhile, is by itself one of the most intuitive handheld golf GPS devices on the market. The touch screen is responsive while the UI is both simple and intuitive, allowing you to easily swipe through multiple views of the same hole and locate your yardages with a couple of touches, track your shots and score your round as you play.

Oh, and the unit also doubles as a remote for the speaker – just in case you were worried Mileseey hadn't thought of literally everything.

The battery life is also excellent. Capable of running for 15 hours at 50% volume, the GeneSonic's mammoth battery also allows it to double as a powerbank, with 30W fast charging via a USB-C cable.

Should you buy the Mileseey GeneSonic Pro?

Speakers out on the golf course will always remain something of a divisive topic, but if you golf in a group where music is a must-have accoutrement to your round, the Mileseey GeneSonic Pro is an essential buy.

It sounds excellent, is packed with features aimed at making it simple to use out on the course, and thanks to its low-key design doubles seamlessly as a household speaker for parties and everyday use.

The GPS, meanwhile, is a breeze to use thanks to its responsive touchscreen and intuitive UI. The fact that you can detach it and take it out on rounds without the speaker, however, is the true point of difference, and one that makes the GeneSonic a far more appealing purchase than other GPS-equipped speakers on the market.

At $299, there's no denying that the Mileseey represents a sizeable investment compared to other speakers in its class (Bushnell's Wingman HD is $100 less). Its true two-in-one versatility, however, truly sets it apart and makes it, in our eyes at least, a worthy purchase for the money.
