The 10 best putters on the PGA Tour and the clubs they used
GolfMagic profiles the players and flat sticks that had the most success on the greens this year.

With another season on the PGA Tour coming to a close, it's time to take stock and look back at both the players and equipment who came to define the year in professional golf.
One defining trend of the 2025 season? The slow but ceaseless shift away from traditional putters, with the PGA Tour website reporting that for the first time on record, every one of the OWGR top 10 used a mallet putter this year.
With increasing uptake of more forgiving, higher MOI and both low and zero torque putters, it seems all but inevitable that old-school bladed putters will diminish further on tour as a result.
Ben Griffin, a player who himself switched from a blade to a mallet towards the end of this year, summed it up the best, saying: "I actually looked a lot at the stats this year. I was 19th in Strokes Gained: Putting, and I believe I was the best blade putter on TOUR at No. 19, and all these guys ahead of me switched from blades to mallets."
But of all the best putters money can buy, which delivered the most on the greens for the world's best this year?
We've already covered the drivers that delivered the most distance for tour players this year. Now it's the turn of the flat sticks, as we profile the 10 best putters on tour in terms of strokes gained on the greens, as well as the putters they used.

10. Sami Valimaki
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball
Sami Valimaki is riding high after becoming Finland's first ever PGA Tour winner at the weekend's RSM Classic, doing so with one of the most relatable putters around. Valimaki's beloved White Hot OG 2-ball has been a dependable weapon over the season, and true to form he finished his tournament ranked 6th in strokes gained putting.

9. Rory McIlroy
Average strokes gained putting: 0.597
Putter used: TaylorMade Spider Tour X3
While the putter has famously let Rory McIlroy down in so many crucial moments, 2025 will prove the year that his trusted TaylorMade Spider Tour proved most pivotal for the newly-crowned Grand Slam champion. Putting was one of McIlroy's key strengths this year, which when combined with his near tour-leading performance off the tee helped him finish 3rd on tour in strokes gained overall.
8. Sam Ryder
Average strokes gained putting: 0.626
Putter used: Odyssey White Hot Versa #7
Sam Ryder switched into a TaylorMade Spider mid-way through this season and performed phenomenally with it, notably catching alight and hitting a mind-blowing 11/11 putts from 10-25 feet at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Sadly, despite finshing the year as one of the tour's 10 best putters, he became one of the many big-name players to lose their tour card, having gone all season without recording a top 10 finish and missed two FedEx Cup Fall Series cuts.

7. Cameron Young
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: Scotty Cameron Phantom X T5.5 Tour
One of the PGA Tour's most consistent players this year from tee to green, Cam Young enjoyed a particularly prosperous year on the greens where he ranked as the tour's 7th best putter overall. This was thanks in large part to the harmony he displayed with his Scotty Cameron Phantom X T5.5 Tour, which has that classic Scotty look and finish with a more forgiving mallet profile.
6. Garrick Higgo
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: L.A.B Golf OZ.1 Pro
The first and only inclusion for L.A.B golf on this list, the OZ.1 Pro cracked the top 10 in the hands of young gun Garrick Higgo, who switched out his Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball for the zero-torque model earlier this year. It clearly worked, as he made the 2nd biggest jump in the DataGolf rankings to finish inside the world's top 50 for the first time.
The swing. The shot. The hair.

5. Nico Echavarria
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K #7
Colombian Nico Echavarria was the best putter on tour for the early part of this season, dominating the greens with an old Odyssey model that's, incidentally has just been (sort of) revived. The putter in question comes in Odyssey's much-loved #7 shape and released as the Tri-Hot in 2023. Although unlike the zero-torque 2025 edition of the Tri-Hot, you can pick one of these up for little more than £100 in the right places.
“It’s very hard to do but that’s definitely the goal.”

A runner-up finish at last year’s @TheRSMClassic solidified Nico Echavarria’s spot in the #AonNext10 and the first two Signature Events.
This week he’s hoping for more FedExCup Fall magic – currently 62nd and two spots… pic.twitter.com/RQGcQjfd2w
4. Denny McCarthy
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Driver used: Scotty Cameron Fastback Proto
Denny McCarthy was by most measures the best putter in the world for the 2024 season, which is why it raised eyebrows when he switched out of his trusted Scotty Cameron GoLo early this season. It wasn't a huge switch, however, with the American putting a similarly-shaped Scotty Cameron Fastback Proto mid-mallet in the bag instead, but it clearly worked as he once again finished this year among the tour's Top 5.
3. Harry Hall
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: Odyssey O Works 1W
Flamboyant Englishman Harry Hall is one of the few players on this list to still use a blade putter, in this case a modern classic in the form of the Odyssey O-Works. The 1W is a slightly wider variant of the classic #1 blade, engineered with Odyssey's iconic microhinge face for a premium roll and a wonderfully cushioned feel.
2. Taylor Montgomery
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: TaylorMade Ghost Spider S
Proving you don't need the latest tech to putt lights out, Taylor Montgomery earned this year's putting silver medal with a 12-year-old putter. More specifically, it's a very early edition of the iconic TaylorMade Spider, which Montgomery famously paints himself to maintain its unique white finish.
1. Sam Burns
Average strokes gained putting: 0.548
Putter used: Odyssey Ai-ONE 7S
Another victory for one of Odyssey's most iconic putter shapes, the #7 once again prevailed as the deadliest putter on tour this year in the hands of US Ryder Cup debutant Sam Burns. Burns finished the year as the Tour's best putter with a whopping 82.525 strokes gained putting over the course of the season, averaging almost a full stroke gained per round with his new Odyssey Ai-ONE #7 model.
