Tiger Woods applauds USGA for Pebble Beach setup at US Open

Tiger Woods has applauded the course setup by the USGA following the completion of his week at the US Open.

Woods played the first six holes of the final round at Pebble Beach in 4-over par, but responded with six birdies from there to the house for a round of 69 to move him inside the top 20 on 2-under par.

But while it was not the week for the 15-time major champion, he did at least congratulate the USGA on their management of Pebble Beach having failed in a number of previous US Opens of recent years.

"It was a fantastic week in the sense it was nice to have the course set up fair once again," said Woods. "It could be had, or you could get hammered. Well done to them."

Woods, who once again used tape on the back of his neck in the final round, admitted to struggling with yet more back and neck pains on Saturday.

"My back impacts every shot I play – it’s just part of the deal," said Woods.

"Let me put it this way: I feel every shot I hit. I think that’s always going to be the case from here going forward."

Despite fighting through the pain barrier, Woods ranked 19th in fairways hit (73%) and 21st in greens in regulation (63%), but he struggled on the greens with a 1.58 average ranking him 49th in the field.
