Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith has signed with the LIV Golf Tour, according to his fellow Australian PGA Tour colleague Cameron Percy.

Speaking to RSN radio, a radio station based in Australia, Percy revealed that both Smith and six-time PGA Tour winner Marc Leishman have signed lucrative deals with the Saudi-backed series.

Percy also told RSN radio that he'd previously spoken to 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott who has also been linked to the LIV Golf Series. Scott has previously described the breakaway tour as "appealing."

With Aussies such as Matt Jones, Travis Smyth and Wade Ormsby already on the LIV Golf roster, tour commissioner Greg Norman could be on course to form an all-Australian team, much like what has happened with the South African players on the tour.

Percy, 48, also confirmed that a new 'super league' concept has been in the pipeline for a number of years and he was also critical of the players who have taken large sums of money despite Saudi Arabia's questionable human rights record.

"Unfortunate, yeah, they’re gone," Percy said to RSN radio.

"I had a long conversation with Adam Scott and he was very interesting talking to about it, just where it is. He said he met with these guys (LIV) in 2017 (and) they were ready (to) do all this. So, the Tour has known for a long time that this stuff’s in the works.

"The more and more you look into it, some people don’t care, some people have got a conscience and do care.

"It really comes down to, you know, they just executed 80 people this week, just chopped their heads off. They’re not the nicest people in the world.

"Do you just look past that and go, ‘Oh well, I’m rich I don’t really care’. It’s a tough one, it really is."

After winning the Claret Jug and his first major title at St Andrews last month, Smith was defensive and frustrated at being asked about his future on the PGA Tour.

He neither confirmed or denied where his loyalties lied, but it seems LIV Golf has caught their biggest fish yet. He is the World No.2 and a player in his prime having just won his maiden major title.
