Adam Scott missing $20m PGA Tour event for an EMBARRASSING reason

Adam Scott has revealed the "embarrassing" reason he is missing the next elevated event on the PGA Tour as he confirmed Tiger Woods' legendary caddie Steve Williams will be on his bag at Riviera.

Scott told the media after Si Woo Kim won the Sony Open the reason why he is missing the $20m Waste Management Phoenix Open is simply down thinking the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was played before the stop at TPC Scottsdale.

PGA Tour players who finished inside the top 20 of the 2022 Player Impact Program are allowed to skip one event that has been given "elevated" status in response to the LIV Golf League.

But otherwise they are committed to every single one. Rory McIlroy has committed to Phoenix.

Scott, who has recently joined the PGA Tour's Players Advisory Council, told the media:

"Well, I don't have a good reason for you. The embarrassing reason is I actually thought it went Phoenix, Pebble, LA, so I didn't even consider it from the beginning.

"Yeah, I think spending a little time at home in Australia seems too good for me after two and a half years of not going home, so an extra week is nice."

Last year Scott confirmed Williams - who was on the bag for 13 of Tiger's 15 major championship victories - would be coming out of retirement.

Williams will share caddying duties with Scott's regular caddie Greg Hearmon.

Scott continued:

"Yeah, I think generally the whole idea with a job share is that it's always fresh, that whoever you've got out there you haven't seen for a little while, maybe eight weeks or so since they've been on the bag, and then they do a run and someone else comes back and it's all very fresh, and I think it's a good thing at this point in a long career."

Scott also paid tribute to Kim after he claimed his fourth PGA Tour victory.

The Australian, 42, and Kim were part of the International side at last year's Presidents Cup.

Kim got underneath the skin of Justin Thomas during their singles match.

Scott continued:

"There's a lot of Si Woo as a golfer, especially on the inside. I think when he's in a position like this, the fire burns hot, and he's going to be hard to beat if he's in the lead I would say.

"I don't think Si Woo is an instigator of any shenanigans, but he's certainly happy to participate."
