Jordan Spieth made his move on the second day of the BMW Championship on the PGA Tour at Wilmington Country Club.

Despite making a bogey at the 18th hole, the 2015 FedEx Cup Champion finds himself one stroke back of the leader Adam Scott, who is on 8-under.

Spieth made the turn in 33 after making birdie at No. 3 and No. 6. Birdies at 12, 14 and 17 followed before he came unstuck at the 18th to shoot a 67.

The 29-year-old was unfortunate at the 18th with his tee shot when his golf ball found the left rough and he sent his approach way too long. It led to a finishing bogey.

Joining Spieth on the same score after 36 holes is a cluster of top talent, highlighted by the World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler will not be toppled as the world's best player this weekend after Cameron Smith withdrew from the second leg of the playoffs, citing a hip injury.

The Masters champion turned up in the same attire as Will Zalatoris. On the range beforehand, they both saw the funny side of it.

"Fortunately we were wearing different coloured pants but there was definitely a few good jokes out there about the colour schemes," Scheffler said.

Cameron Young, who is vying for the PGA Tour's Rookie of The Year award, is also on the same score as Scheffler, as is the Canadian Corey Conners.

Rory McIlroy sits one stroke back of the group on 7-under. He scored a 68 for the second consecutive round.

The Northern Irishman admitted that he was just pleased to get revenge on the 15th hole after he double-crossed his tee shot yesterday, finding the water.

McIlroy then missed a short putt for double bogey and his exceptional round turned into an okay one.

He said: "Yeah, it's funny, I probably didn't play quite as well today as I did yesterday but ended up shooting the same score. I'm probably coming off the golf course a lot happier than I was last night after dropping a few those last few holes and today picking a couple up.

"Yeah, [I am] really happy with how I played today. I bounced back well. I made an early bogey, was able to bounce back after that, made a bogey on the par-5 14th, bounced back with two nice birdies the last four holes.

He added: "It's getting tricky. It's getting firm. It's only going to continue to get that way over the weekend, so it's nice to be in position."
