Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy presented proposals that they have been working on for two years at "the meeting" before the BMW Championship.

And it appears that what they have suggested has already got the backing of PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

According to a report by Eamon Lynch at Golfweek, the big cat and McIlroy are spearheading a venture that will see the world's top golfers competing against each other in a non-green grass stadium environment

Details of the proposals include:

  • One day events designed to complement the PGA Tour schedule
  • These will be launched in 2024
  • The tournaments will be staged in front of a live audience and they will be "technology-forward".

Apparently, discussions are already underway with prospective broadcast partners.

Per the report, the details were revealed where PGA Tour members attended a "players-only" meeting on 16 August.

Woods, 46, flew in to Delaware from his Jupiter home in Florida especially for this meeting which simply got tongues wagging in the golf world.

According to The Fire Pit Collective, the players who were in the meeting were also supportive of a proposed "tour-within-the-Tour".

That included up to 18 no-cut tournaments featuring the top 60 players in the world, competing in $20million prize purse events.

It has also been suggested that PGA Tour members could be given an upfront payment of $500,000 to help with expenses that would go against their tournament winnings.

Elsewhere, it was also reported that the PGA Tour could relinquish its non-profit status, opening the possibility for future billionaire investors.

The players who attended the meeting in Delaware were reportedly:
