Grayson Murray was involved in a scooter crash before this week's Butterfield Bermuda Championship on the PGA Tour, forcing his withdrawal from the tournament held at Port Royal Golf Course.

According to the Royal Gazette, Murray and his caddie Douglas Schwimer were riding scooters on Tuesday, October 22 in the town of Puget.

They were reportedly en route to their hotel but as Murray was turning a bend, he collided with a car that was coming in the opposite direction.

A police spokesperson told the Gazette

"Two visiting men were hurt and transported to King Edward VII.
"Each was riding a separate rental scooter at the time of the collision. One of the men is understood to have sustained injuries to his arms and legs, while the other is understood to have sustained injuries to his hands.
"Both visitors are in Bermuda for the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship golf tournament."

Thankfully Murray is okay, despite telling Golfweek that he needed 50 stitches for cuts. Of those, 25 were on his face.

He told the publication:

"Honestly, I'm pretty fortunate because the helmet saved me. If it wasn't for my knee and stitches in my left hand, I would try to play.
"It is nobody's fault. Riding on the opposite side of the road is already confusing and the roads in Bermuda are narrow and sketchy."

This is a picture from the scene:

Murray told the publication he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

The American, 29, has previously been candid about his battle with alcoholism.

When he was 27, he publicly criticised the PGA and accused the Tour of refusing to help.

In a post on social media, he previously wrote:

"The PGA Tour never gave me help. In my five years of experience of being on tour not once have I ever had a request been acknowledged by the commissioner or the PAC [Player Advisory Council] other than 'we will get back to you.'
"I hope not only the PGA Tour steps up in the areas they need to step up but I also hope people are held accountable in their roles they serve."

Murray has won once on the PGA Tour. That victory came at the 2017 Barbasol Classic.

He hit the headlines earlier this year over an apparent feud with Kevin Na, who now plays on the LIV Golf Tour

Na was also involved in a tense exchange with Ian Poulter this week ahead of LIV's season-ending event in Miami at Trump Doral National, but there was speculation it was just a bit of harmless fun.
