The Wyndham Championship marks the finale of the regular PGA Tour season before the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The tournament is played at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Kevin Kisner is the defending champion here. Kisner, 38, claimed his fourth PGA Tour victory at this venue last season, scooping $1,152,000.

This year represents the first time in two years that the prize purse has received a boost.

Although next season on the PGA Tour, there will be a massive increase in prize purses across the board in response to LIV Golf.

The total prize purse for the 2022 Wyndham Championship will be $7,300,000, meaning the winner will take home $1,314,000.

That is $162,000 more for the winner than last year, representing an increase of 14.06 per cent.

Several high-profile players could lose their PGA Tour cards this weekend.

Only the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings are guaranteed full playing rights for next season, with everyone below dropping down to conditional status.

That means that some major champions and former Ryder Cup stars are among those who could miss out.

These include the struggling Rickie Fowler, England's Matthew Wallace and Danny Willett, fan favourite Harry Higgs, the United States Ryder Cup captains Zach Johnson and Luke Donald and Brandt Snedeker.

Elsewhere, big names Shane Lowry and Will Zalatoris are in the field.

Zalatoris is still searching for his first victory after another impressive major season.
