DP World Tour caddie Daniel Mulvey has avoided jail at today's sentencing after he was caught sending filthy photos and explicit text messages to a 14-year-old girl he met at a music festival.

Mulvey, 35, sent graphic and inappropriate images to the teenage girl on Snapchat after he had convinced her to hand over contact details when meeting her at TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow in July 2023.

The Scottish caddie sent multiple explicit text messages to the teenage girl along with photo of a man carrying out a sex act.

When the teenager's family found out about these inappropriate messages, they decided to carry out a sting by recording the texts and pictures that Mulvey had sent.

They then took this evidence to the police.

The disgraced golf caddie allegedly told the girl he was 24 years old when she asked him on Snapchat.

But she was horrified to learn at the time Mulvey was in fact 33 years old and 19 years older than her.

Court revealed how Mulvey stated to the teenage girl that he "honestly" would have sex with her and he "meant it".

He added: "I can’t stop looking at your pictures, I’m in bed thinking about you."

When the girl told Mulvey that she was 14, he replied: "Actually don’t care that you are 14 by the way, you are so good."

The chat continued into the early hours of the morning when Mulvey asked if she was a virgin.

He stated: "I want to be your first."

Mulvey was arrested by police at Manchester airport on 14 December and he was taken to a police office in Glasgow.

He was charged and pleaded guilty to sending sexual messages to the girl and making reference to engaging in sexual activity with her between 8-9 July 2023 at a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court in April.

Mulvey avoided jail at today's sentencing.

Sheriff Iain Fleming instead ordered Mulvey to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

Mulvey was also put on the sex offenders register and under supervision for 18 months.

He was given a police escort from court.

That was was after he was berated by members of public as he initially tried to leave court.

Mulvey's career as a DP World Tour caddie now faces ruin.

The Scot has caddied for a number of Tour players in recent years, none bigger than four-time DP World Tour winner Guido Migliozzi.

Mulvey was caddying for Migliozzi at the time of his explicit messages to the teenage girl in July 2023.

That was also a month that saw Migliozzi and Mulvey finish T64 at The Open at Royal Liverpool.

"We were disgusted at the messages we were seeing and even more so when we saw how old the guy was," a family member said prior to today's sentencing, per the Daily Record

"He is just a vile predator and people need to be warned about him.

"We checked the guy’s social media and he’s on Facebook and Instagram boasting about how he was travelling the world as a big time golf caddie. He’s got photos from Dubai, Australia, Japan - all over the place, living the high life.

"He’s been pictured with Donald Trump, Gary Player and Bob MacIntyre. But at the end of the day he’s just a low life paedophile who targeted a 14-year-old girl."

The relative added: "He didn’t back off. He upped the stakes and started asking horrific questions about her sexual experience.

"He said he didn’t care how old she was. And then he asked if he could trust her, which is appalling because it’s just grooming talk. He went on to send a video, where he appears to abuse himself. He deserves to go to straight to jail and he should never work in such a high profile job again.

"It came to light that the girl was getting messages and we had to decide whether or not to shut it down or to go to police. We were aware that taking a screenshot would alert him, so another phone was used to record him.

"He just kept sending messages that were getting worse, so he deserves any punishment that comes his way.

"Who knows how many other children he has tried stuff like this with?"
