Major winner: PGA Tour wouldn't want Patrick Reed back

Dame Laura Davies says the PGA Tour won't be calling Patrick Reed anytime soon after the LIV Golf recruit revealed he is still a free agent.

Dame Laura Davies says the PGA Tour won't be desperate to sign Patrick Reed because his personality "isn't that exciting".

Reed controversially quit the North American circuit for the PIF-backed LIV Golf in December 2022.

The 35-year-old American is still expected to continue to ply his trade on the breakaway this season alongside Dustin Johnson in his 4 Aces team.

But the former Masters champion revealed after he cruised to victory at the Dubai Desert Classic that he has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal

Reed said he would be "very surprised" if he doesn't continue with LIV. But he outlined to reporters what he plans to do should he not agree terms.

The golfer said he would continue to play on the DP World Tour with the objective of finishing in the top-10 of the Race to Dubai rankings.

That would see him earn a PGA Tour card - but whether his return would be blocked remains to be seen.

Davies, 62, acknowledged on Sky Sports that Reed's ability is not to be questioned.

But she claimed officials at PGA Tour HQ won't come calling as his personality "isn't that exciting".

"He's not one of those players that gets you running down a fairway to see what shot he's going to hit next," she said.

"But what he is, is one of the very best players in the world, and he's so calm and that's a superpower."

LIV's fourth full season begins on 4 February in Riyadh and the league have already lost five-time major winner Brooks Koepka

Another off-season passed whereby they failed to secure a bona fide star. Belgium's Thomas Detry was the highest-ranked LIV Golf signing.

Koepka has been reinstated to the PGA Tour under new scheme that also provides a pathway back to Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm.

Reed is ineligible for the "returning members programme" as it is only open to major winners, or winners of The Players Championship, between 2022-2025.

But all three players have stated that they don't plan on going anywhere this season.

DeChambeau said he's contracted through 2026 and Rahm said he wished Koepka well.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm focused on LIV for this year and hoping my team can repeat as champs," said the Spaniard.

In truth, Smith appeared to be the only player who spoke with genuine enthusiasm about staying with LIV.
