Exclusive: Hall of famer predicts major glory for Charley Hull soon

In an exclusive interview with GolfMagic, Dame Laura Davies has insisted there is "no question" that Charley Hull will break her major duck sooner, rather than later, while also warning us to temper expectations for rising star Lottie Woad.

Dame Laura Davies is certain Charley Hull will end her search for a maiden major title "sooner, rather than later".

Hull has long-been acknowledged as one of the hottest talents in the game since she first burst onto the scene as a teenager at the Solheim Cup in 2013.

But the 29-year-old has yet to enjoy major success despite a number of close calls, including runner-up finishes in two of the last three Women's British Opens.

Hull was just two shots behind champion Miyu Yamashita at Royal Porthcawl last month, taking her tally of second-place finishes in the majors to four while also posting five other top-10s.

The English ace then suffered an ankle injury in a freak accident in the car park during the PIF London Championship at Centurion, but she has impressed on her return to competitive golf.

Hull was runner-up Nuria Iturrioz at the Aramco Houston Championship on the Ladies European Tour before she landed her third LPGA title last week, taking advantage of a final-hole meltdown from world No 1 Jeeno Thitikul to win the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Dame Laura is no stranger to winning majors having bagged four of them during her stellar career, with 86 professional victories worldwide.

And, speaking exclusively to GolfMagic, the 61-year-old legend feels that Hull's excellent form this summer bodes well for her chances of collecting her first major crown next season.

"Without a doubt, yeah," said Davies when asked if she expected Hull to win big next year. "I know she's not won any of the majors, but she's been really unlucky in the majors quite recently.

"She's had her chances, but people ahead of her that you thought might back up have just gone away. She's tried to chase them down, but Lilia Vu held on at the Women's British Open two years ago.

"Just before that, it was Allisen Corpuz who denied her at the US Open, and obviously she was close again at Porthcawl. But she'll win one sooner rather than later, there's no question about it.

"She's has a bit of a rough trot over the last few months. She had that horrible virus during the Evian, and then what happened to her ankle at Centurion was very discomforting for her and obviously put her back a little bit.

"But she's fine now, and I'm sure she's got a lot of good people around her to make sure she's good again. And then what she did at the Kroger was lovely to see."

Davies feels that the occasional lapse in concentration has been Hull's undoing in the past, but improved focus levels should reap rewards in 2026.

"Charley always plays well, it's just that sometimes her concentration levels aren't massive," Davies added. "You know, that's just part of being Charley. I actually think she should have won double, or even triple, what she's already won.

"For me, talent-wise, she's probably one of the best women golfers out there. The way she can manipulate the ball, I know some people say she just flat-out hits everything really hard, but she can also shape the ball.

"She'll see a shot, she'll hit the shot, which is what I love about Charley's game."
