Patrick Reed: PGA Tour "best in the world" and I'd go back

Dustin Johnson's LIV Golf team-mate Patrick Reed says he would jump at the opportunity to play on the PGA Tour again.

Patrick Reed says he could see himself playing on the PGA Tour again.

The former Masters champion quit the PGA Tour in 2022 and is currently banned from competing on the North American circuit.

But the subject of allowing LIV players to return has been brought into sharp focus recently after established tour permitted Brooks Koepka's comeback.

Reed, 35, told Telegraph Sport before the Hero Dubai Desert Classic he would entertain a return if he was offered the same terms as Koepka.

Five-time major winner Koepka, 36, has been given the green light to make his comeback via the "returning members programme".

Only players who have been away from the PGA Tour for at least two years and have won The Players Championship or a major between 2022-2025 are eligible under the terms of the initiative.

That excludes Reed, his 4 Aces team-mate Johnson and even six-time major champion Phil Mickelson

"It's not really a decision for me at the moment," the 2018 Masters winner told the paper

"I mean, that was for players [who won majors from] 2022 and on. [But] I definitely would have to think about it, if that number was [taken] down to 2018."

Asked if he would like to play on the PGA Tour again, Reed added: "Of course.

"I mean, if it's up to me, I'd play everywhere. I'm already playing on three tours, so why not add one more?"

Reed added: "I always enjoyed my time out there on the PGA Tour.

"I mean, let's be honest, it's the best tour in the world. Look at what they’ve done in golf.

"You know, I could see myself playing there at some point again.

"I mean... you just never know. Everything's so fluid, everything's discombobulated in golf.

"But at the end of the day, whatever my name's called, I'm going to show up and play and, you know, try to play the best and not only represent myself, but my family, and also whatever my team [is]."

It's unclear how Reed's comments will be received by PGA Tour officials and whether or not he is being truthful.

Reed may be in the final year of his contract and, like Bryson DeChambeau, attempting to gain some leverage in negotiations.

He joined LIV for a reported $50m and has racked up a further $40m in prize money.

That being said, the American golfer cannot be accused of not being committed to his craft.

In 2025 alone, Reed teed up in 32 events across LIV, the Asian Tour and DP World Tour.

New PGA Tour chief executive, Brian Rolapp, also appears intent on making swift decisions that are best for business even if some players' feelings get hurt.

It took Rolapp and the Tour's policy board - that includes Tiger Woods - a matter of days to find a solution to get Koepka back on board.

Still, it's important to point out that, unlike Reed, Koepka never sued the Tour.

Would they entertain the idea of Reed returning? Only time will tell.

"Fines won't get in my way"

Despite being an honorary member of the DP World Tour, Reed has been heavily fined by Europe's circuit for competing in LIV events.

LIV has been paying the fines for its members but that will soon change and the golfers will have to pay up out of their own pockets.

Reed has racked up $4m in fines so far.

LIV Golf chief executive, Scott O'Neil, revealed last month that talks are ongoing with the DP World Tour to find a solution.

O'Neil is hopeful that it will also resolve the dilemma overshadowing the Ryder Cup futures of Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm.

Reed said he'll still play on the DP World Tour.

"I hope there is a resolution, I mean, especially for a guy who has always come over, always supported this tour," he said.

"I've played in everything from the big events to the small events.

"I haven't changed the way I've come over and played since I got my card over here.

"I'm still planning on coming over and supporting this tour.

"This tour is unbelievable and I'm not gonna allow a couple fines to get in my way."
