Golf fans slam 'disgraceful' pace of play during second round of US Open at Oakmont
Golf fans fuming after sitting through 5hr 30mins+ rounds on day two at the US Open.
Golf fans have ripped into shocking pace of play during Friday's second round at the US Open at Oakmont Country Club.
The early wave of morning three-balls, which included a star-studded grouping of Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, went round in 5 hours and 44 minutes.
Scheffler's group teed off the 10th hole at 7.40am local time, and they finished their round on the 9th green at 1.24pm.
The USGA reportedly intended for groups to get round in 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Therefore three-balls were taking an hour longer in the morning wave on Friday.
The big delay on day two at the US Open appeared to take place on the beastly 647-yard par-5 12th hole.
Some of the bigger hitters were going for the green in two and therefore had to wait for groups ahead to finish out on the green.
Scheffler's group finished the 11th hole at 8.07am, per Golf Digest's Jamie Kennedy.
They left the 12th hole at 8.51am.
It means they played the first three holes in an incredible 71 minutes.
Things failed to pick up pace in the afternoon wave, either.
Thriston Lawrence's group was seen waiting 28 minutes to tee off on the 12th hole.
As many as five groups on the 12th at that time.
"Never seen a major round in the men's game take so long, this is disgraceful," commented one frustrated armchair fan.
"Such a terrible pace of play today, WTF is going on at the US Open?!" wrote another.
"Some of these guys needs to be penalized. I know it's hard out there but come on, 5hr 30+ rounds is a total joke," admitted one fan.
"Tonight's groups will be playing in the dark," noted one fan.
"The US Open pace of play right now is miserably slow," said another.
Another fan claimed slow play was inevitable.
"Well everyone was applauding the carnage on the course, so yeah, the holes are gonna take longer."
Sky Sports Golf's Rich Beem admitted during the live coverage that slow play was always going to arise on a tough test such as Oakmont given the length of rough around the course and the fact there are 156 players in the field.

Scheffler went on to card a 1-over 71 to fall back to 4-over par thru 36 holes.
But that is safely inside the cut line.
Hovland fared much better with a 68 to move into the red on 1-under par.
Morikawa had a day to forget with a 74 that sent him back to 4-over par.
Sam Burns was one player who did not mess about in the second round, however.
Burns shot arguably the round of his career with a stunning 5-under 65.
The round vaults Burns to 3-under and in contention for a first career major title.
Burns was tipped up GolfMagic Editor Andy Roberts at 66/1 for the US Open.
The American lost out to Ryan Fox in a playoff at the RBC Canadian Open last weekend.
