U.S. Open: What is the projected cut at Shinnecock Hills and how is it determined?

We're almost at the halfway stage of the 2026 U.S. Open.

As things stand, America's Wyndham Clark is out in front with a comfortable lead at Shinnecock Hills.

Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Dustin Johnson are also in contention at the third men's major of the year.

At the other end of the leaderboard, several big names will be scrapping to make the 36-hole cut.

But how is it determined?

Well, only the top 60 players and ties will make it through to the weekend.

What is the projected cut?

It's looking like the projected cut will be four-over par, with DataGolf suggesting there is a 62 per cent chance being that number.

The U.S. Open cut rules contrast with the other three majors.

The Masters takes the top 50 and ties, whilst the PGA Championship and The Open each take the top 70 and ties through to the weekend.

The field at Augusta National, though, is much smaller and traditionally has fewer than 100 competitors.

Fields at The Masters, The Open and the PGA Championship each feature 156 players teeing it up.
