US Open week is a time when American style truly shines, so it feels fitting that one of the nation's most iconic menswear designers has returned to the game.

FootJoy has today revealed its latest collaboration with American menswear giant Todd Snyder, the sixth time the two brands have linked up on a shoe collaboration. The canvas for the collection is the new Premiere Series, which earlier this year underwent a small overhaul.

Snyder's choice to rework the Premiere Series is a conscious one, reflective of its status as a classic staple of American golf style. “I grew up in Ames, Iowa, across the street from a golf course. I didn’t golf, but I caddied for my dad every weekend, and he always wore wingtips," he says. "When I was a kid, I didn’t get them, but now I find them so iconic.”

Snyder has overhauled two variants of the Premiere series: the wingtip Premiere Marquis, and the Packard, which has a narrower V-throat eye stay and striped detailing along the side.

“This is the best shoe we’ve ever made together,” says Snyder. “It’s a gentleman’s shoe, quintessential Americana.”

While Snyder's roots are firmly rural, the shoes take inspiration from the rolling sea and coastal style of the Hamptons, the location of this year's US Open.

The cresting waves, sea, and sand of Southampton's beaches are represented to the clean white and aqua blue colour scheme, grounded with brown midsoles for a classic look. Sneaker-inspired rope laces also nod to the area's rich maritime culture.

“We got to play with materials in a new way,” he continues, “Using these rich, classic leathers alongside more modern, athletic elements, like the reflective piping and sneaker-inspired shoelaces.”

Both new Premiere Series shoes boast the updated tech that was introduced in the model earlier this year, primarily aimed at making the shoe more lightweight and comfortable straight out of the box.

Most notable is an overhaul to the traction system, with an ARCTrax Outsole replacing the former model's VersaTrax blade pattern. This is bolstered further with replaceable SoftSpikes Pulsar LP cleats.

It has reinforced, cushier padding around the collar and a new padded OrthoLite® tongue for step-in comfort, while underneath sits a cushioned sockliner and EVA midsole for a low-profile, locked in ride when walking the links.

You can shop both new shoes when they go on sale at 3PM on June 16 at FootJoy's website.
