Cameron Smith scooped more than $4 million for winning the individual tournament at LIV Golf Chicago and finishing tied third in the team competition.

Smith was competing in just his second LIV Golf event since joining the controversial Saudi-backed circuit.

It is understood Smith accepted a signing-on fee in the region of $140 million

The win came just nine weeks after he etched his name on the famous Claret Jug at the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.

Smith held a two-shot lead heading into the final round and ran out a comfortable three-shot victory on 13-under par thanks to a closing 69.

Dustin Johnson finished in tied second on 10-under par with compatriot Peter Uihlein as the American duo picked up just shy of $2 million each for their efforts.

Further down the board, Phil Mickelson posted his best LIV Golf finish to date with a tie for eighth on 6-under par.

Bryson DeChambeau also finished on that score, despite being taken out by the top rope

In the team event. Johnson's 4 Aces GC team (also comprising Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch and Pat Perez) won their fourth consecutive tournament and they once again split a prize pot of $3 million.

Smith's Punch GC team finished tied third in the team event, giving Smith a bit of pocket change to go alongside his $4 million first prize.
