Six-year-old golfer to represent UK

GOLF prodigy Jayden Phipps is to represent the UK at the Callaway World Junior Golf Championship next month in California, where he will be playing juniors nearly three times his age.

Jayden, 6, has been recognised ever since beating Colin Montgomerie in a hole-in-one contest last year at a Golf Live event in Kent, overseen by radio star Chris Evans.

Hard-working Jayden trains twice-a-week as a member of the Three Hammers Golf Club in Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, along with hours of training in his back garden.

The youngster is trying to follow in his hero's Justin Rose's footsteps as part of the new breed of elite juniors alongside the likes of Junior European champion Aadam Syed and Chinese Guan Tianglang.

Jayden’s mother Karen, a beauty therapist, said: “He takes it all in his stride. He loves playing and it never bothers him that people are watching him.

"We never pushed him into playing but he absolutely loves it. He can't stop winning but we have no idea where his talent comes from.

“We don’t even play golf so this is a total shock to us but it will be a great experience to go to America and we are very proud of him."
