UK golf club temporary closes due to a case of COVID-19
But following Public Health England advice, the golf club has now reopened...
A golf club in Stoke was forced into closing last Friday after one of its members tested positive for coronavirus, according to the Stoke Sentinel.
The temporary closure at Alsager Golf Club came just 20 days after it reopened due to UK lockdown restrictions. The club is one of only two in the UK that only have a clubhouse, and not a golf course.
The club was formed in 1909 as a 9-hole venue, but its lease was terminated in the 1950s and it lost control of its course, but it kept hold of the clubhouse and has been a private members club ever since.
However, while the club closed its doors last Friday as a result of one case of COVID-19, it announced on Monday this week that it would be reopening its doors again on Tuesday.
"Following our recent temporary closure and after seeking advice from Public Health England, we are now set to reopen on July 28," read the club's Facebook post.
"Based on their guidance, we have conducted a thorough deep clean and are confident we've followed all required procedures.
"We'd like to reassure all of our members that the premises are thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis and hygiene is very high on our priorities."
To add to the slight confusion at Alsager Golf Club, there is an Alsager Golf and Country Club - also in Stoke - that goes by the name of Alsager Golf Club on Facebook. That particular club has taken to social media to reveal it was very much open to golfers.
