Team USA's dominance of the Walker Cup continued as they stormed to a 17-9 victory over a beleagured Great Britain & Ireland at Cypress Point.

The visitors had high hopes of ending their run of four straight defeats in the historic amateur contest as they went into the singles session trailing by just one point.

But Gavin Tiernan was the only GB&I player to put a point on the board during a one-sided Sunday, his 2&1 win over Michael La Sasso the only highlight for Dean Robertson's team.

The morning foursomes finished 2-2 as Luke Poulter, son of Ryder Cup legend Ian, partnered Charlie Forster to victory over Ethan Fang and Preston Stout, while Cameron Adam and Niall Shield Donegan won the final match of the session.

But Stout got revenge over Poulter in the singles, claiming a 2&1 win in match 4, while Fang claimed the biggest victory as he thumped Stuart Grehan 5&4.

Connor Graham did manage to avoid defeat as he tied his clash against Mason Howell, but the home side won the next five matches to render Tiernan's lone victory a mere consolation.

Veteran Stewart Hagestad had the honour of making the winning putt as he celebrated his fifth Walker Cup appearance with a 4&3 victory over Eliot Baker.

Team USA have now won 40 of the 49 Walker Cup contests, and Robertson admitted his side were outclassed in the final session.

"We came here with a focus to raise our standard, to emulate what's only been done twice in 100 years, which is to beat the US in the US," said Robertson. "But big congratulations to them, they played fantastic.

"We were in it. We fought hard, and our foursomes performances were exceptional. But for a few putts, I think the big difference for us is we need to be better putters.

"The US team are loaded with talented individuals, but we are, too. But we never really managed to kind of clutch out some of the games, and then this afternoon Team USA performed brilliantly, and hats off to them.

"I'm really proud of my players, and they'll grow from this. I was in the same position 32 years ago as a Walker Cupper at Interlachen. As much as losing sucks, if it didn't, then it wouldn't matter. They'll use that.

"These experiences that they've gained at Cypress Point and all the spectators, the fans, the golf club, the USGA, the R&A, everybody has been amazing, and those are memories made for life."
