Report: Tour pros offer standing ovation after Jay told to quit over LIV deal!

Several PGA Tour pros reportedly cheered and gave a standing ovation when one player called for Jay Monahan to resign after he took questions from the membership over the bombshell decision to partner with LIV Golf.

A players only meeting was always scheduled for 4pm on 6 June ahead of the RBC Canadian Open but things got even spicier after it was confirmed earlier in day the PGA Tour and DP World Tour had agreed a landmark deal with LIV Golf's Saudi backers, the PIF.

Monahan has already admitted he knows he will be labelled a hypocrite for the stunning U-turn. This is what he had to say when he was asked how he could look players such as Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods in the eye.

Reports are slowly beginning to filter through from what happened inside the walls of the heated meeting in Toronto.

One player is said to have called for Monahan to resign, which led to a number of cheers from the membership, according to Golf Digest.

Johnson Wagner, who is a 43-year-old PGA Tour veteran, told Golf Channel he listened to the meeting via speakerphone and felt as though the membership was 90-10 against the decision.

Elsewhere, 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy also told Golf Channel that Monahan 'took it well' when he was told he was a hypocrite.

He told the publication:

"There's some grumpy players in there. I feel a little bit sort of, I'm not lied to, but just that the, the tour has sort of changed its position quickly like, and dropped it on us really fast. So maybe there's a feeling of a lack of trust a little bit in the leadership.
"Um, I don't know if that was all, that's not everyone in the room. It's not me. It just feels like nobody really knows what's happening and the players are out of the loop, but no one really ever likes being out of a loop.
"You know, everyone likes bit of information and especially when it's your livelihood and your job and the sport that you love. So, uh, it was an interesting meeting and sometimes meetings can get a little bit spicy."

Of Monahan, Ogilvy added:

"He took it really well. I mean, that's what the leader has to do though. The leader has to stand up and deliver good news sometimes and bad news sometimes."
"It was a tough meeting for both sides of things. I guess for Jay and all the players because nobody really knows what this is gonna look like in the end. And I guess one of the feelings is the players here just want the loyal players rewarded and not almost punished for staying."
