Need To Know
GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge took the new PING Glide 4.0 wedges to Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate to assess their feel, performance and forgiveness.
Based on the performance of these wedges, we were immediately inclined to judge them as the best that PING has produced in their illustrious history.
We point to the PING Glide Forged Pro wedges as a significant point in the company's wedge timeline too. Many pros on the PGA Tour put these in their bags and the Glide 4.0 clubs are just a continuation of this.
At £160, these wedges are not cheap, to say the least, but when you combine the look, performance and versatility of these clubs, you will understand the price tag.

What are the PING Glide 4.0 wedges all about?
One of the key features of this wedge is the hydro-pearl finish. This feature helps you to achieve the same results around the greens and from the fairways in any weather conditions.
The wedges are made with a precision-machined face and grooves. The new textured face is meant to increase spin and consistency, with the larger activated elastomer insert softening the feel of the face.
There are four different grind options with these wedges which is what makes this set so versatile. PING has catered for a number of different golfers and strokes with the Glide 4.0 wedges.
Which golfers should use the PING Glide 4.0 wedges?
One of the advantages of PING Glide 4.0 wedges is their versatility and suitability for a wide range of golfers. It doesn't matter what handicap you have or how much experience you have, these wedges will improve your game.
This is a significant change when compared to the Glide Forged Pro wedges. These were suited to Tour players and low amateurs, but PING has expanded its appeal with this new release.
Looks and feel
The look of the PING Glide 4.0 wedges is aesthetically pleasing. They are a nice club to look down at and they don't have such a large offset when compared to previous PING wedges.
The look of these clubs rivals the design of other wedges such as the Titleist Vokey SM9 and the TaylorMade MG3 wedges.
Performance and forgiveness
We found the PING Glide 4.0 wedges to be incredibly forgiving. Consistency is the word and despite hitting some shots from the heel and the toe, we still saw good results on the green and close proximity to the hole.
We experienced good consistency from short-range pitches to long-range shots from the fairways. This is why it is a wedge for every golfer because it forgives your ball-striking when it isn't perfect.
Our video review above is also more evidence of the benefits of custom fitting. Although the clubs perform consistently well, they were tailored to Alex's swing which optimises performance.
We were impressed with the spin rate of these wedges across a number of different shots such as from the fairway, the rough and the sand.
With the consistency of strike and the spin these wedges produce, we grew in confidence when attempting to play a number of different shots such as a bump-and-run or a one-hop-and-stop.
We found it extremely difficult to find fault with the PING Glide 4.0 wedges. From the centre of the fairway to the edge of the green, we were delighted with the consistent ball-striking that these clubs bring.
£160 is an expensive price tag, but there is no need to go all in and buy three wedges. Perhaps you need a new sand iron? Or a new lob wedge to achieve that extra bit of bite around the greens.
The PING Glide 4.0 wedges have been constructed with precision and when you purchase them through custom fitting, they are optimised to perform for your swing.
As you can see in our video review above, we enjoyed playing with these wedges on the golf course and they will instil confidence in your short game and approach play.
