Four of Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team will be on show at the star-studded Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week, where professional golfers will be mixing with Hollywood celebrities and a host of other household names.

Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick and Bob MacIntyre will hope to have recovered from their Bethpage hangovers before taking to the first tee on Thursday at The Home of Golf.

This is one of the most popular events on the DP World Tour, played over three of the world's best courses; The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

There's a heavyweight cast of American major winners in the field this week, with Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson representing a strong LIV Golf presence.

But as the professionals battle it out for Race to Dubai points, much of the attention will be on the celebrities on show. And, once again, there's no shortage of genuine superstars.

Tennis legend Sir Andy Murray will make his first appearance in the tournament having spent plenty of time on the golf course since his retirement last year, and he has got his handicap down to 2 despite playing regular golf for barely a year.

“It’s very special to be able to play in a full-blown professional event," he said. "And to be able to do it in Scotland at such a unique location as the Old Course makes it even more exceptional.”

Murray's ambition is to make it to a scratch handicapper to match 11-time World Surfing champion Kelly Slater who is also in the field along with five-time Olympic rowing golf medalist Sir Steve Redgrave.

Now 63, Redgrave has been an ever present in this tournament since its inception in 2001, and he has maintained a single-figure handicap for a number of years, currently playing off 7.

Another debutant from the world of sport this week is Dustin Johnson's father-in-law, Wayne Gretzky, regarded as the best NHL player of all time.

The 61-year-old Canadian got his handicap to single digits a few years ago, but he is now believed to be playing off 12.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen's handicap was in the spotlight during the summer as he took to social media to complain that the official world handicap system had him rated at +1.

"This is why golf handicap system is flawed," he posted in July. "I’m NOT a +1 handicap golfer. Look at my recent rounds! I’ve also not got my 6 rounds from SA last week in here where my best was 4 over at Leopard Creek."

Hollywood stars Michael Douglas (10) and his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones (22) are also regulars in the event along with the much-loved Bill Murray, who will be celebrating his 10th start here.

The 72-year-old star of Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day and Lost in Translation has played off single figures for many years and was last reported to be around 7 or 8.

The best women's celebrity golfer on show is likely to be actress Kathryn Newton, who had early ambitions to turn professional and intended to play at the US Women's Open in 2012, only to land the lead role in Paranormal Activity 4.

The 28-year-old was a +2 handicap a couple of years ago, although it is not known if she still plays to that level.
