Could LIV Golf's Patrick Reed land a shock captain's pick in 2025 US Ryder Cup team?!

Could 'Captain America' Patrick Reed land a 'Captain Pick' on the 2025 US Ryder Cup team? Recent evidence suggests there is every chance...

It's fair to say Patrick Reed's name has not been at the forefront of many people's thinking when it comes to Keegan Bradley's six captain's picks on the United States Ryder Cup team this summer.

But it probably now should...

With two months remaining until Bradley reveals his six captain's picks, Reed is doing everything he can right now to throw his hat into the ring for a pick.

Reed cited before the start of LIV Golf Dallas this week how the Ryder Cup was still very much on his mind, and his performance thru two rounds at Maridoe Golf Club most certainly proves it.

The 2018 Masters champion has surged into a three-shot lead with 18 holes to play as he goes in search of his first individual LIV Golf League win.

Reed finds himself at 9-under par, and confidence is steadily building in his game.

"To get my first LIV victory as well as doing it in my home state would mean a lot," said Reed.

"But really, at the end of the day, instead of trying to focus on what happens on the 54th hole, it’s stay in the moment. Stay in the present."

Aside from his impressive play so far in Dallas this week, Reed finished solo third at The Masters in April.

He then backed it up with a T4 at LIV Golf Korea last month.

Reed did miss the cut at the US PGA in May but finished a respectable T23 at the US Open.

This week, however, Reed has looked back to his brilliant best.

A number of golf fans are starting to come to terms with the possibility that Reed could indeed back-door his way in for a late pick.

When you consider the likes of Max Homa, Tony Finau and Sahith Theegala are struggling badly for form at the moment - to name just three fancied players for a pick at the start of the season - it could very well open the door for someone like Reed, should he continue to keep his foot on the gas from now until August's deadline day.

Throw in the fact Reed lives and breathes the Ryder Cup, and the possibility of adding 'Captain America' to a star-studded cast at a rowdy Bethpage in New York might be too hard to refuse for captain Bradley.

Even if he hasn't played since 2018.

Reed's name used to be synonymous with the United States and Ryder Cup.

Nicknamed 'Captain America', the former Masters champion racked up an impressive 7-3-2 record across three appearances (2014, 2016, 2018).

Reed earlier this week acknowledged he may have to win The Open at Royal Portrush in order to wear the red, white and blue once again.

"It's always on your mind," Reed said of his prospects of making a fourth career US Ryder Cup team this September.

"Anytime I get to represent our country, it means a lot to me. For me personally, I'm always thinking about trying to make every team.

"Obviously being a part of LIV where we don't get points, it's an uphill battle, but really for me it's focused on playing some great golf and having a chance.

"It's really going to come down to the Open Championship, having a chance to win there.

"You have a really good showing and play well there, then you just never know.

"It is looking like no matter what it's going to rely on a pick unless I go ahead and win the Open.

"Really the only way I can focus on the Ryder Cup is that one week, go out and give all I have and have a chance to win."

While of course a big performance at The Open will go a long way to his chances of making the team, a first LIV Golf win on Sunday night will most certainly nudge Reed's name further up Bradley's list.
