Behind every great player is an experienced caddie and Scottie Scheffler is no different.

Scheffler's caddie is Ted Scott and they have been working together since late 2021.

Scott is best known for carrying the sticks for two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson before the duo mutually agreed to part ways.

Watson and Scott were seen as a bulletproof partnership so it came as a huge surprise they split after 15 years working together.

Watson, who now plies his trade in the LIV Golf League, revealed in interviews what led to the split.

He said he simply wasn't sure how many years he had left in him after suffering multiple injuries to his wrist and knee.

Referencing his phone call to Scott, Watson previously explained: "I said, look, man, I'm 43 years old. I don't know what I'm going to do.

"My wrist is killing me. He is like he needs ten more years, and I gave a nice retirement package when we split up, but we split up mutually."

Scott, who is a devout Christian, considered himself retired from looping duties until Scheffler came calling.

Interestingly, they met in a Bible study group.

"I just think the world of him as a person so that was why I was attracted to him just being a potential good partner for me out on the course," Scott said after their first tournament together.

Before Scott officially agreed to be Scheffler's caddie, he had a few questions for the American.

Scheffler had a reputation for getting angry on the course and sometimes directing that frustration towards his caddie.

Fellow PGA Tour caddie Paul Tesori, who has worked for the likes of Vijay Singh, Webb Simpson and Cameron Young, explained: "Teddy and Scottie talked for quite awhile before they went to work for him.

"Scottie's young and has had a bit of a habit of getting a little angry on the golf course, and maybe even a little angry toward his caddie.

"Ted being a veteran, almost 50 years old, being out here for so long, he was able to say: 'I want to come work for you, but you have got to promise me that you're going to work on these areas.' And not only did Scottie say yes, he has absolutely done it."

The rest, as they say, is history as Scheffler enjoyed a breakout year which saw him win multiple times on the PGA Tour and crowned the 2022 Masters champion.

Scott was also on the bag as Scheffler defended golf's unofficial fifth major, The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, in March 2024.

Given the success they have enjoyed so far, it wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest the Scheffler/Scott partnership will continue for years to come.
