Luke Donald has sent a congratulatory message to Jim Furyk after the American was officially confirmed as the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the biennial match at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Furyk, a 17-time PGA Tour winner, will take charge of the United States for a second time as they look to end Europe’s dominance in the Ryder Cup.

The 55-year-old previously led the U.S. team in 2018 at Le Golf National in Paris, where they suffered a heavy defeat to Europe. Despite that setback, Furyk has been handed another opportunity to lead the side in golf’s most intense team competition.

Shortly after the announcement, Donald posted his reaction on Instagram.

“Congratulations Jim,” wrote Donald, 48, on Ryder Cup USA's Instagram post. “Diane and I look forward to sharing this special experience together with you and Tabitha over the next 17 months.”

Donald, who continues to build on a highly successful spell as European captain, is aiming to make history by becoming the first Ryder Cup captain in 100 years to win three consecutive contests.

Furyk welcomed his own appointment with pride and determination, underlining his commitment to leading the U.S. team back to success.

USA's last victory at the Ryder Cup came with a record-breaking 10-point win on home soil at Whistling Straits in September 2021.

But they have unthinkably not won an away Ryder Cup now since 1993, a run Furyk will now attempt to end at Adare Manor in 2027.

“The opportunity to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup Team for a second time is a tremendous honor,” said Furyk, who represented the Americans nine times as a player from 1997 to 2014.

“I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the Cup on European soil.”

Furyk's return to the hotseat comes after a mixed reception to his first captaincy in 2018, when his side lost heavily by seven points to a dominant European team led by Thomas Bjørn.

The 2003 US Open champion is also only the fourth U.S. captain since 1979 to be given a second chance in the role, highlighting the rarity of his appointment.

The decision has divided opinion among U.S. golf fans. Some have questioned aspects of his 2018 leadership, particularly his pairing strategy and wildcard selections, while others point to his successful record as 2024 Presidents Cup captain, where the Americans secured an away victory by seven points at Royal Montreal.

Europe continue to hold the upper hand in the modern era of the Ryder Cup, with Donald’s side edging out a dramatic 15–13 win in September 2025, despite a late surge from Keegan Bradley’s U.S. team.

The result underlined Europe’s dominance in recent decades, with the away team victory at Bethpage Black marking the first of its kind since the famous “Miracle at Medinah” in 2012.

Furyk served as one of Keegan Bradley's vice-captains in New York.

Furyk’s appointment as 2027 captain was not the PGA of America’s first choice, with several high-profile names previously linked to the role, none bigger than Tiger Woods who turned the opportunity down after his recent DUI arrest.

However, Furyk now takes charge with the responsibility of preparing a team capable of ending a three-decade-long drought away from home.

The 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor will mark the 100th edition of the contest, adding further significance to what is already shaping up to be a pivotal chapter in the rivalry.
