U.S. Open leaderboard: Round two scores from Shinnecock as Wyndham Clark builds four-shot lead

Wyndham Clark holds a four-shot lead at the halfway stage of the 2026 U.S. Open. 

Clark, 32,was among 50 players who had to return to Shinnecock Hills early to complete his first round after fog delayed a two-hour fog delay on Thursday. 

The American, who won the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, hit back-to-back pars to finish his first round with a score of six-under 64 and he added to his lead with a one-under 69. 

Clark sits atop the leaderboard on seven-under, four clear of major winners Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele. 

The unheralded Sam Stevens and South Korea's Tom Kim are also nipping at his heels.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are safely through to the weekend on level par. 

Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm were among the high-profile names to miss the cut after 36 holes. 

Clark, who stressed he wants to win back fans after damaging a locker at Oakmont 12 months ago following a missed cut, said he only got four hours sleep. 

"I really drove it great, and then I was just really conservative into the greens," he said. "These greens are obviously the challenge of this golf course.

"Then today I kind of did the same thing. Wasn't as sharp, but the consistency of hitting it to kind of conservative targets really paid off."

Clark added: "I really felt like I could be in double digits, but you know, the great thing about that is I didn't feel like I had my best, and I still am leading as of right now. Hopefully I can bring my A-game on the weekend."
