Report: Collin Morikawa's ex-caddie finds bag for one week only with European Ryder Cup hopeful
Collin Morikawa's former caddie JJ Jakovac will be working for England's Matt Wallace at this week's PGA Tour event a Colonial Country Club in Texas.
Collin Morikawa's former caddie JJ Jakovac has found a new bag for one week only, according to a report.
Per Golfweek, Jakovac will be working for England's Matt Wallace during this week's PGA Tour event in Texas.
Recently crowned PGA Championship winner Scottie Scheffler headlines the field at Colonial Country Club.
Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth are the other notables playing.
But several big names have decided to take a week off after the PGA Championship.
As for Wallace, he is hoping a string of good results will give him a much-needed boost in the European Ryder Cup standings.
Wallace is currently 10th behind Tomas Detry, Ludvig Aberg and Fleetwood.
Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Rasmus Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose and Sepp Straka are currently in the top six.
It is unclear why Wallace's regular caddie Jamie Lane is out of action.
Jakovac told Golfweek he is 'still waiting for the right long-term opportunity' after his shock split from Morikawa.
Morikawa sacked Jakovac after the 2025 Masters, bringing an end to their six-year association.
Their partnership yielded multiple PGA Tour titles as well as two major championship victories.
But Morikawa has not been in the winner's circle since his victory at the 2023 ZOZO Championship in Japan.
The American came close to ending his drought at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but was pipped down the stretch by Russell Henley.
Morikawa decided it was time to try something new and hired Max Homa's former caddie Joe Greiner.
Greiner walked away from Homa before the first men's major of the year to preserve their friendship.
Homa tumbled down the world rankings after he missed five cuts in his first eight starts of the 2025 campaign.
There is reason for optimism for Homa, though, as his performance at Quail Hollow last week demonstrated there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Morikawa and Greiner debuted their new partnership at the Truist Championship.
He shot rounds of 70, 72, 74 and 72 to finish in a share of 50th at the PGA Championship.
Scottie Scheffler sends clear message to LIV Golf players
Unsurprisingly, Scottie Scheffler is the clear favourite to land his 16th title at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scheffler made it clear to reporters on Wednesday he's not here just to make up the numbers after adding a third major title to his resume last week.
The American was also asked whether it's likely the PGA Tour will ever secure a deal with LIV's backers to end the split in the men's game.
Scheffler said it was the responsibility of breakaway tour players to bring the game back together.
"I have said it a few times this year," Scheffler said.
"If you want to figure out what's going to happen in the game of golf, go to the other tour and ask those guys.
"I'm still here playing the PGA Tour. We had a tour where we all played together, and the guys that left, it's their responsibility I think to bring the tours back together.
"Go see where they're playing this week and ask them."
