Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn share the lead heading into the third round of the Rocket Classic, with a packed leaderboard setting up a fascinating weekend at Detroit Golf Club.

Young produced the round of the day on Friday, firing a tournament record-tying 9-under 61 to surge up the leaderboard alongside Cantlay and Fishburn at 10-under par after two rounds.

The trio have very little breathing room, with England's Matt Wallace and 2023 Rocket Classic champion Rickie Fowler just one shot further back at 9-under par.

And it is equally congested behind them, with eight players tied at 8-under par, including two-time major champion Xander Schauffele.

Another seven players sit at 7-under par, meaning Saturday's third round is likely to produce plenty of movement as the contenders attempt to put themselves in position for Sunday's final round.

Young storms into contention with stunning 61

Young has given himself a huge opportunity to claim another title in 2026 after producing one of the standout rounds of the Rocket Classic so far.

The American carded a remarkable 9-under 61 on Friday, moving from the fringes of contention into a share of the lead at 10-under par.

It continues what has already been an impressive season for the World No.3, who has two PGA Tour victories to his name in 2026, highlighted by The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Young is now chasing a third win of the season and the fourth PGA Tour title of his career, but he will have to negotiate a packed leaderboard over the weekend.

A repeat of Friday's performance would certainly put him in an extremely strong position, although the depth of the chasing pack means Young cannot afford to ease off the pace.

Cantlay also finished the second round at 10-under par after signing for a 66, putting himself in prime position to end the longest winless spell of his career.

Patrick Cantlay

The former FedExCup champion is seeking the ninth PGA Tour victory of his career, but remarkably, his last triumph came back in August 2022.

Cantlay has therefore arrived at the weekend with a significant opportunity to finally end that drought.

Fishburn completes the three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Unlike Young and Cantlay, however, Fishburn is still searching for his first PGA Tour title.

Rickie Fowler

The leaders have little breathing room.

Wallace sits just one stroke behind at 9-under par after producing an excellent 64 on Friday, while fan favourite Fowler remains firmly in the hunt on the same score following a 68.

Fowler has particularly fond memories of Detroit Golf Club having won the Rocket Classic in 2023, and the six-time PGA Tour winner now has a golden opportunity to add a second title at this tournament.

Xander Schauffele

There is no shortage of quality behind the top five on the leaderboard heading into the weekend.

Eight players are tied at 8-under par, with Schauffele the most notable name among them.

The two-time major champion carded a 66 on Friday to move within two shots of the lead and the World No.15 will be confident of making a big move during Saturday's third round.

But Schauffele is far from the only threat.

Michael Brennan, Michael Kim, Peter Malnati, Chris Kirk, Davis Riley, Ryan Gerard and Doug Ghim are all also sitting at 8-under par.

Another seven players are only three shots off the lead at 7-under par, including Keegan Bradley, Luke Clanton and Emiliano Grillo.

It's all to play for heading into day three.
