Rocket Classic 2026: Wyndham Clark leads notable names to miss cut at Detroit Golf Club

There's a star-studded leaderboard at the Rocket Classic this weekend, but plenty of big names also packed their bags out of MIchigan on Friday night.

While Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn will battle it out for the Rocket Classic title this weekend, a number of big names are already heading home after failing to survive the halfway cut at Detroit Golf Club.

Young vaulted into a share of the lead with a stunning 9-under 61 on Friday to join Cantlay and Fishburn at 10-under par after 36 holes.

Matt Wallace and 2023 champion Rickie Fowler are just one shot behind at 9-under par, while two-time major winner Xander Schauffele headlines a large group at 8-under par in what promises to be a fascinating weekend in Michigan.

Not everyone, however, enjoyed the low-scoring conditions.

The halfway cut fell at 3-under par, meaning every player at 2-under or worse failed to qualify for the final two rounds.

Among those packing their bags were reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, three-time PGA Tour winner Ben Griffin, defending Rocket Classic champion Aldrich Potgieter and two-time tournament winner Cameron Davis.

Wyndham Clark headlines surprise exits

Perhaps the biggest shock of the week was the early exit of Wyndham Clark.

The reigning U.S. Open champion never found his best golf around Detroit Golf Club, posting rounds of 71 and 74 to finish at 5-over par, a full eight shots outside the cut line.

Clark arrived in Michigan hoping to build momentum heading into the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs, but instead endured one of his most disappointing performances of the season.

Ben Griffin falls one shot short

Another surprise casualty was Ben Griffin, who narrowly missed out after rounds of 68 and 70 left him at 2-under par.

With the cut line settling at 3-under par, the three-time PGA Tour winner finished one shot shy of extending his week.

Potgieter unable to defend Rocket Classic title

There will be a new Rocket Classic champion crowned on Sunday after Aldrich Potgieter failed to make the cut.

The South African recovered well from an opening-round 76 by firing a 67 on Friday, but his 3-over par total left him well adrift of the required score.

His title defence effectively disappeared after a difficult opening round.

Potgieter is, however, looking to shatter a Rory McIlroy record on the PGA Tour this season.

Cameron Davis' Detroit success comes to an end

Few players boast a better record at Detroit Golf Club than Cameron Davis, making his early exit another notable surprise.

The two-time Rocket Classic winner opened with a promising 68, but a second-round 75 saw him tumble to 3-over par, ending his hopes of another run at the title.

Bhatia and Horschel also heading home

There were further disappointments for Akshay Bhatia and Billy Horschel.

Both players signed for rounds of 68 and 71 to finish at 1-under par, leaving them two shots outside the cut line.

On a golf course where birdies were readily available, neither player managed to produce the low round required to book a weekend tee time.

Brad Dalke's difficult PGA Tour run continues

The struggles continued for YouTube star Brad Dalke, who finished bottom of the leaderboard after rounds of 81 and 75 left him at 16-over par.

Dalke never threatened to make the cut and remains in search of a breakthrough performance at PGA Tour level.

GolfMagic has listed below all of the players who missed the weekend action at Detroit Golf Club.
