Billy Foster confirms he couldn't caddie for Collin Morikawa at 2025 Ryder Cup: "You bleed Europe"
Collin Morikawa's fill-in caddie Billy Foster has revealed there is absolutely no chance he will carry the American's sticks at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Collin Morikawa's fill-in caddie Billy Foster says there is absolutely no chance he will loop for the American at the 2025 Ryder Cup should he be offered the position on a permanent basis.
Morikawa sacked his long-time caddie JJ Jakovac in April and immediately hired Max Homa's former bagman Joe Greiner.
But their partnership only lasted six PGA Tour events and Morikawa turned to the legendary English caddie for help.
The 61-year-old has carried the sticks for Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
Morikawa confirmed before teeing it up at the Scottish Open his partnership with Foster was only on a trial basis.
The American missed the cut at The Renaissance Club after shooting rounds of 68 and 76 but they will be together for next week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Morikawa won The Open at Royal St George's in 2021 so there is every chance the 28-year-old could contend for the Claret Jug.
In that scenario, then he would surely want to hire Foster on a permanent basis.
Foster has told talkSPORT, though, if that were to be the case then there is one event he would have to sit out.
"If by some minor miracle he wins The Open next week and offers me the job, I'd have to say 'well I'd love to work with you but I could not work the Ryder Cup for America'," Foster said. "Let's put that on record right now!
"I've done 16 Ryder Cups, you bleed Europe. It would be like me scoring a hattrick for Man United against Leeds."
Keegan Bradley sends firm message to US Ryder Cup hopefuls
Anticipation is slowly building for the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black.
During the Scottish Open, Rory McIlroy declared the US team is undoubtedly stronger with Bradley in it.
He previously said it was not possible for Bradley to combine a playing role with the captaincy.
But victory at the Travelers Championship saw Bradley vault up the OWGR and the US Ryder Cup standings.
Bradley is yet to confirm what he will do but it appears more than likely at this point he will select himself if he fails to finish in the top six and hand off some of his duties to his leadership team.
Bradley was coy on the topic when he appeared on the most recent edition of the Fore Play podcast.
But he did issue a firm warning to US Ryder Cup hopefuls.
"The simple fact of this is if you're not in the top six you can't expect to be on the team," he said.
Bradley was famously overlooked for the 2023 matches in Italy. Some felt he deserved to be picked ahead of Justin Thomas.
"When I wasn't in the top six for Zach [Johnson] at Rome, I totally understood not getting picked," he added.
"You cannot expect to be on the team if you don't finish in the top six – even if you're seventh.
"When you get the call that you're not on the team and you're not in that top six – I wasn't mad at Zach – I got it."
