Miles Russell has revealed it remains to be seen whether Charlie Woods will caddie for him at next week's U.S. Open.

Miles Russell says it is 'to be determined' whether Charlie Woods caddies for him at next week's U.S. Open but he would like to continue his partnership with the son of golf legend Tiger Woods.

Russell was one of two 17-year-olds to survive a brutal 36-hole qualifier on Monday, known as golf's longest day, to earn his spot into the 156-man field for the third men's major of the year at Shinnecock Hills.

The amateur, ranked 10th in the world, carded rounds of 71 and 67 at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to finish at six-under overall and advance to a three-for-two playoff

Despite making a bogey on the first hole of sudden-death, Russell attacked the second - the par-five 18th - in two shots and sank the birdie putt to seal his spot in the U.S. Open.

He immediately embraced his close friend Charlie, who will join him at Florida State next year to play college golf.

"It kept it so light," Russell told Golf Channel about having Charlie by his side. "It's the first time I've had a buddy on the bag. I really like it, not talking much golf, just having a good time."

Asked if Charlie will carry his sticks in New York next week, Russell added: "We'll see what he's doing. To be determined."

Ten final qualifying events took place simultaneously on 8 June.

Notable players to miss out on qualifying included former Team USA Ryder Cup players and PGA Tour regulars Max Homa and Tony Finau.

Finau missed out by two shots whilst Homa was undone for the second straight year in a playoff.

Matt Wallace, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Aldrich Potgieter, Michael Block, Michael Thorbjornsen, Luke Clanton and former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy also missed out.
